Need some help please, my A4 2.8q has it's airbag light on and i can't get vcds to communicate with the controller to see what's wrong, i have looked at the plugs under the seats and also in the drivers side kick panel to see if there is anything amiss which there doesn't seem to be. Anything i have missed???

I have searched the net and it points towards a knackered controller, if i get a used one does it require coding to the car??

    Cheers

Its that time of year again, cold sets mine off in the morning, vcds wont clear it.
I bought an airbag reset tool that does a clear code or reset the controller.
Works for my controller error but as you cant connect to it maybe not yours but worth a try.
Airbag ecu behind climate real pain to get to, just need the same number.

it's a 98 car, and yes all other controllers i can connect to no prbs and no other codes, it does have an aftermarket radio which shouldn't make any difference (not fitted by me)

Airbag light still on i have checked the K line voltage on the diagnostic plug and that reads 9.5 volts so pretty much what it should be, i have removed the aftermarket radio which was nicely plumbed in, tried again to get the codes but nothing doing still, anything else i can check before ripping the dash apart to get the controller part no.

Would i be wasting my time soldering the wires under the seats??

    Thanks

As an update I sourced another controller from ebay what a touch only £4.99, after a skin shredding session ( I kid you not!!) i managed to replace the old unit with the new / used one if you get my drift. We now have comms with airbag controller yippee, so cleared the faults and now i am only left with one 01218 side airbag igniter passenger side (n200) 32-00 resistance too high.

Is the fix for this clean the contacts under the passenger seat or solder the wires togther??

Hopefully final update, fingers crossed, been out and pulled the plugs off the passenger seat popped them and and off a few times, then plied them with acf 50 which is a great spray (ain't cheap) that helps stop corrosion, deleted the code and hey presto no airbag light.

Yesterday when i replaced the controller it's not easy on a pfl car, there is a how to out on the web that shows a fl car and removing the ashtray, on the pfl car removing the ashtray makes no difference. My wrists are well chewed up, i ended up wrapping them in gaffer tape to protect them, the plastic is well sharp where the climate and radio sits.

I will end up zip tieing the passenger seat but it was too wet and miserable to be bothered today

So a big thanks to all that helped, and i hope this post helps others in the future.
