I was happily minding my own business in the outside lane of the A3 when all of a sudden I got a loud grating / scraping noise from the engine. Lost all power, and the clutch pedal dropped to the floor. Pulled over and saw a nice trail of oil down the road ending up in a puddle under my car (2000 A3 TS Quattro) The engine started but there was a horendus rattling sound..... too scared to fire it up again. Got the car recovered and its sitting on my drive. Not being the most techie person (I tried kicking the tyres but it's still not working) I have jacked it up and had a look and it looks like the drain plug from what I think is the bottom of gearbox is missing (this is where all the oil was pouring out of on the road) I fear the gearbox has blown and taken the clutch with it. Can anyone suggest how best I work out whats gone pop / suggest somewhere good I can carry it to that that is not a million miles from Sutton in Surrey. Any help much appreciated.
