I drive a 56 plate A3 170TDI Sportback Sport Manual. Lovely car. 89,000 miles on the clock. Very little actual town driving, more a mix of urban and rural with an occasional burn up the M1. Am I heading for expensive problems with the DMF and DPF. I am not heavy on the clutch nor do I ride it.

I am having similar problems, just bought the car and DPF light comes on weekly. I take it for a blast and it has cleared so far. considering DPF delete. but trying to find out if it will cause more problems than it will solve is becoming an issue!

Just make sure you drive it hard occasionally and u wont get problems, we've been running a tuned 170TDi in a TT for 2.5 years and not had the DPF light come on once, but a do fully explore the rev range when I can.:racer:. DPF's need heat to get a good burn cycle going.

I had a 170 with a DPF from new in March 2007 until I traded it in for my current 140 in May 2009. My current 140 has a DPF and has been remapped to around 170 and I have never seen the DPF warning light on either car.

As 'IceHanger' said in the previous post Just make sure you drive it hard occasionally and you won't get problems.

I have a new 170 on order that is due in March so obviously the DPF 'problems' have not put me off at all.

Depending on the age of the car.... I think you will find that any car that had a DPF when it was manufactured to get it EU Type Approval for emission standards will fail the new 2012 MOT if the DPF has been removed.

Also, although it may not be relevent to most members of this forum, if you want to take you car to Germany at any time, as I do frequently, then you must have a DPF on any diesel powered car inorder to get an 'Umwelt' sticker which allows you to drive the car into an increasing number of towns and cities or face a fine.

    .

Wrong. 2012 MOT does not involve the DPF in anyway at all, though they will do a smoke test as per usual.

OK so the first paragraph may not be correct but the second one is definitely correct. I know because I recently applied for a 'Umwelt' disc for my trips to Germany. The UK has always been way behind German on environmental issues.
