Hi,

Just been driving my sisters A1, (1.6 tdi) and driving at around 50-55 it started revving on its own, with lots of white smoke out the back, (typical not my car lol) the smoke smells different to normal diesel exhaust fumes...like a burnt smell!

Under the bonnet, nothing out of the ordinary, but under the oil cap it's smells burnt..

I've scanned it in VCDS and nothing is thrown up,

I've had it recovered and it's cooled down, but when started again, it smokes again.

Any ideas

Thanks. Warren

Sounds similar to diesel runaway to a degree...

Where the engine starts to feed in its own engine oil normally through a leak in seals with the turbo charger..

how high was it revving up to? regens normally bring them up to 1-1.2k rpm, if bouncing off the limiter would say leaky turbo
