Great post mbk! 997 turbo in red or atlas grey is my next car been saying it for some years now, the other thing my brother keeps telling me to do is to put the extra 20k into a v8 tvr cerbera for those special days and keep the rs3

Ubbs my friend: these cars look like A3 diesels with big silly wheels, OK? Sorted......

That said, I actually LIKE the looks of the Audi RS3, a LOT!!!!

The FUN starts when others realise, usually after they've been zapped, that it wasn't an A3 diesel (have you encountered that Mark?)!

The usual post-expression begins with an 'F' and ends with an 'L', or maybe a 'T'; whichever, you can be sure there'll aways a couple of exclamation marks 'F!!!!!! T!'

One piece of machinery is the Audi RS3!

    And do I appreciate it? 'F!!!!!! T!' I do.

Just a GREAT shame that Audi still can't sort the sillies...

    Thank you!

997T is a great choice and £20k in a Cerbera sounds like a ton of fun (hope you are keeping plenty back for spares and repairs!) but no question they are immense when they are working.

To me the rs is complete even if it looks like an a3 diesel! The key to a reliable tvr is to use it! Apart from flat battery's from little use his have been very good (2 cerberas and 1 Tuscan) actually the gallardo he owns has broke down more! I get to borrow his cars from time to time (having the lambo for a week in July) and ive only borrowed the cerbera once it scarred me stupid no cats and straight thru pipes pops bangs flames on overrun these cars are an "event" to drive as is the gallardo but for now the rs is going nowhere, but the 997 turbo itch will have to be scratched sometime in the future

Ya see my friends; in the 60's and 70#s, a lot of cars generally looked the same; and we used to put a 'GT' badge on our 'bum' to show we were different.

Then came the Q-car: a rusty piece of sh*t that for all intense and purposes should not have left the scrap yard, however: such a fearsome piece of s#it had 300 brake under the bonnet and maybe an interesting rear axle ratio….

Loud it may have been; but traction it didn't have: and THAT my friend's IS the difference of what was then and what we (maybe) have NOW!!!!.

FORGET what others have, may have; it's the application of what you have in an Audi RS3 that creates the 'GRIN' factor… whatever the weather!

    Remember that!

    Whatever the weather!

EVERY day you wake/get up IS a GOOD day...

Ubbs, you're lucky, what a great set of cars to have even occasional access to! I agree the about the TVRs being an event, I can still remember the first time a friend let me drive his, I was driving a 306 GTi-6 so the TVR felt like a rocket by comparison (though the interior door release knob did fall off and we were stuck inside for a while!). I know the feeling with the 997T I've always said one day but like you, for now the RS3 is enough.

Well having driven both, there is no comparison from the two.
The acceleration in a 997t especially in sport mode is like a sledge hammer!

I found the RS3 a lot smoother & more liner power wise.
The trouble is with the 997, if you gun it, by the time you change from 3rd you're already into licence loosing territory!
    Very long legs!

I think the RS3 is subtle, but the 997 is the same, rarely a second glance. I'm surprised about the noise of it, I always thought they were pretty quiet unless it had an aftermarket exhaust on it?
Out of the 3 of them, I reckon the GTR is the most "Look at me" style.

Also, am I the only one who thinks the lower bumper on the RS is styled upsides down?

I think the 911 had an aftermarket exhaust of some type, I've never heard a 911 sound as good.

I agree about the GTR being the most look at me though I do always find my eyes taking a second glance at a nice 911 too. It's always a good feeling when I see the RS3 being checked out too!

The 997 is a formidable car and although Audi has done a fine job refining the standard models in to class leading sports hatches etc at the end of the day the 997 was designed from scratch to be a racer and the RS and S models will always struggle to match it in terms of performance and handling, however they do a great job of not only being quick but at transporting the kids, shopping, going to the match etc etc in comfort and if required a brisk pace, I think you may find the 997 is not that flexible at taking 5 guys to the game?, horses for courses people but enjoy what you have, and there are always track cars to play with :sm4:

Well, they say the 911 is an everyday super car. Who ever they are?
I say ****** ;) There's no way I'd be carting about timber & drain pipe from B&Q in one of those...

There's about the same leg room in the back of a 911 as there is in an early A4. IE. Not much..

If it has a sunroof you can carry long lengths lol, I used to take mine to the local Dump to get rid of rubbish as well ,loads of room under the bonnet and on back seats.

Last time I raced a 911 Turbo... Bike mullered car, felt a bit guilty so I slowed down to let him catch up.

    He wasn't trying...

I witnessed a bike from the passenger seat of a Boxter pull out to pass & as soon as he left the slip stream, he fell back.
I think it was a 600 mind, but still would have expected more...

147rwbhp/190kg (Tweeked Ducati 999s) vs 480bhp/1585kg (997 Turbo) I'm going to win. The car is still a monster though

    Chris Harris has a go

Ducati 1199 vs GT2RS, drag strip the car gets mullered and at Brunters it takes an indicated 200mph before he passes the bike

That really is stunning, if I was in the fortunate position to have a lump of 911 Turbo/GTR money to spend I really would struggle to know which way to go.

I know what you mean, i've always loved the 911 ever since i was about 8 years old, but the GTR is just spectacular. A 'proper' mans car where ( Sorry to be sexist ) a woman would look out of place driving one IMO.

GTR might just edge for me.....

Ah the bike vs car debate, I had a lot of fun out in my Evo IX MR360 (running 400bhp) vs my mate on his R1. On road in most circumstances the R1 was faster, unless it was really twisty and bumpy. The only weapon I had was all the stones the Evo kicked up - he had a couple of massive bruises on his arms from the pebble dashing! At Pembrey on a hot lap (not at the same time I hasten to add, that isn't usually allowed!) it was mighty mighty close.
