So you confirm this works on your 8v?
as a matter of fact it does
Agreed ......but what and /or where is the cheapest way to buy a reliable cable and software disc ?
I know Ross-tech will be an answer , but an expensive one no doubt ???
1. This needs adding to the OP otherwise it will lost in the massive thread
2. Sorry I was referring to 'ABS module is code is 40168' Has anyone else manage to test this to confirm this works correctly?
If you get anything cheaper than £200 then you might be in for a disappointment. Buy from a respectable dealer like NHN as you know its going to be real and no counterfeit.
anything that is not bought from ross tech and cheaper than 350£ or so is counterfeit I guess ?
then what ? I just bought one from ross tech because I use mine a lot but before that I had many cheap cables that worker perfectly. never had issue with any of them.
The forum member NHN sell the Ross-Tech cables in the UK. The VCDS cables are quite expensive because this is all Ross-Tech charge for. The software is can be downloaded for free and the development of the software has to be paid for somehow.
As far the the rear DRLs are concerned, Audi do not activate them for the UK because they are not required by law. In Scandinavian countries and some parts of the USA they are required by law and Audi activate them for cars being sold into those countries.
You can do a lot more now with the current MMI set-up that, in the past, required the use of VCDS. The VAS system that dealers use is not the same as VCDS although they can both do some of the same things but the dealers VAS system costs £,000s.
I had a pm yesterday quoting 259 but apparently there's an offer on for asn users so u want me to forward the pm on @steviefleming
If you don't want to pay out for a VCDS cable and software you could have a look at the VCDS section in the Technical Forums part of this website as it has a map of members who have VCDS and have said they are happy to help others. See if there is anyone in your area and send them a PM.
Awesome, will confirm tomorrow!! Fingers crossed
Will add it as soon as confirmed
Yes please :icon_thumright:
Thanks .....that might be an idea.
My local VW Audi specialist done some VCDS stuff for me for £30 on the S5 , but I just thought buying one maybe cheaper and more flexible in the long run.
On the S5 I got him to ;
Switch the LEDs on at the back
Switch on the remote locking beep
Switch off the seat belt beeper
Switch on the ability to be able to move the car without having to have the drivers seat belt on.
Turned off the front LED 'wink' when you indicate ( so it stays bright all the time )
Turn up the brightness of the front LEDs ( when you turn on the full headlights , I think they dim to around 15-20% , so I asked him to turn them up to 60% I think)
Turn off the wiper after swipe when you clean the windscreen
Switched on adaptive brake lighting ( although I've not been able to really see the effects ! )
so if you enable the REAR led sidelights as rear drls, do the fronts work as normal, i.e. 100% brightness when engine on, and dim on indicator and dipped beam? they don't dim as if you turn the light switch to sidelights?
i think DRLs are brilliant, especially on sunny days when its difficult to see cars sometimes because of sun glare. rears would help too i think if you're traveling toward the sun. (big fan of LEDs if you haven't guessed by now) the interior of my golf looks like the sun. no wait, i tell a lie, the sun isn't as bright.
Pretty sure needle sweep is:
17 - instruments/dash
07 - coding
Byte 1: enable bit 0
Once you have done it post a vid
I don't know how the VCDS works but my cousin does, and he has the software and cable etc, so was wondering if anyone can tell me how to switch off the start / stop function by default on my S3?
It's a pain in the ass having the manually switch it off every time I get in the car.
yes it doesn't change anything for the front daylights
I can't check needle sweep as the S3 does it as standard.
Info on needle sweep is on this thread:
I've activated it on mine and posted a video on page 2
Good info on here, will hopefully add the display for standard rear sensors soon
Why do this? You don't see it anyway, and the idea of dimming the DRL is to make the indicator more visible to other road users - ie a safety issue.
Cos I fancied doing it .......I wanted the DRL's on at all times
The indicator is still visible between the front DRL and on the wing mirror , so hopefully not a safety issue.....and not sure it's much different to having the full headlamps on anyway.
Sat in my car now with the laptop and VCDS (connected to net with Audi Connect ). Just tried 40168 on 03 ABS, while it does accept the code, when you try to do any adaptions, it still say security access required. No TPMS yet!
Just tried adjusting this, no luck Looks like no option (yet) for displaying time rather than date (or just time at all)
Looks like Audi have made us purchase the TPMS option.
Doubt it. I think that security code is not right as can't adjust any settings in 03 with that code. Just says security access needed on everything. I can see the adaption to turn on TPMS just need the correct security access.

Same issue on the Golf with that security code:
GOLFMK7 - VW GTI MKVII Forum / VW Golf R Forum / VW Golf MKVII Forum - View Single Post - GOLF MK7 VCDS TWEAKS
Looks like its not the correct security code after all. Hopefully RT will get it soon
As soon as the codes are known for the central control module so the ACC and lane assist can be adjusted I'll be buying VCDS, no question. Our golf could do with a DSG adaption running too.
We already have the code for module 09, but not yet for module 13.
Is there a list of what the modules are and they control anywhere and which codes are known right now?
Modules depend what options you have in your car. Very few codes are known at the moment, but 09 Central Electric is and that has lots of things to play with.
Ive got VCDS and will be having a play when i get mine!
It's just a waiting game! It was the same when I got my facelift B8 A4, loads of info on how to do stuff on the B8 and could fine the codes, but they won't work on the facelift!
Cheers, thanks for trying.
I'm so tempted to do this but I am really worried about any traces of this voiding my warranty, could anyone confirm that this wont be a problem?
It definitely is not
Definitely not what?
What he said.
