    i know these cars say they are 4wd but which wheels actually drive the car the most as i put some new tyres on my car the front ones just before christmas and the rears in january and the rears are on the markers allready on the inside not sure if the cars got a fast road set up but im a bit pissed they need changing allready. could the four wheel allingment be out ? any advice please

    The S3 is predominantly a FWD car until it senses that there is too much power in the front wheels and begins to lose grip. The Haldex unit then kicks in and transfers a proportion of the power to the back wheels, making it 4WD. The S3 is not a permanent 4WD.

    That's the easiest/simplest way to explain it.

    Without seeing images of the tyre wear, I cannot comment on your alignment. However, if you have only replaced the front tyres recently, the rear ones will obviously reach their wear limit sooner. It would also be a good idea to let us know of your driving style as this may also affect your tyre wear.

    Also is it lowered? you may need adjustable tie arms to combat the camber..

    the rears where only renewed in januaray and the fronts before that and as i say the rears have worn out allready im not a boy racer but do like to give it some now and then whats the point of having one of these cars if you dont enjoy it :)

    Is your car lowered? Sometimes when lowering the S3 it can cause negative camber... Which would cause wear on the inside iirc. There's no adjustment on the rears, unless you buy adjustable tie bars.

    Is it wearing on the inside edges of the tyres?

    In that case, camber will most likely be out causing uneven wear to the inside edge of the tyres.

    As stated above, you will need some adjustable rear tie bars to combat this, which will obviously need to be set up on an alignment system to bring back within tolerance. You may aswell go for a full 4 wheel alignment and make sure both front and rear are spot on.
