I'm thinking of getting a set of winter wheels for my 2005 A3 Sport, i have currently got 17" sport alloys and wondered if 16" wheels will fit over the 312mm brakes, does anyone know?

Run the 17"s as your wintersI would be buying the set on a limited budget of say £500, a second hand set of 16" alloys seem to be cheaper, 205/55/16 are a narrower tyre in my understanding would be better in winter (snow/ice) conditions and also they are generally 25-40% cheaper than the 225/45/17 equivalent.
