As far as I can make out the 3.0 Tdi is 320mm fronts and the S4 is 345mm... For the hastle I think I'll just wait and get a system from N8!

I would go 3.0tdi every time, round town you will get 25-30mpg, on a motorway you will get around 45-50mpg and when you want to get round the Sunday drivers it acts like its been drinking red bull (other drinks are available).
I'm not sure about the auto box, everyone talks about poor mpg for Audi diesels and from what I can see at low speeds my dash always tells me to change down a gear (my car is manual so I can ignore it). I followed the advice a few of times and it told me to drop down another gear - I always thought lower gear = lower mpg.
45-50?? Not in a STronic, I've never seen over 45, even on a steady run.
Been using road trip lite app since day one.
Done 15k miles and just starting to see 36-38mpg from a tank.
Even when driving like 'miss daisy' no chance of 40-45!
As I said, my car is a manual so I can decide what gear to be in. On the motorway, even a busy stop start run on the M6 past Birmingham, I have seen the DIS read over 49mpg. I know the real world figures are different as the cars lifetime reads 41.5mpg where fuelly is 39.5mpg.
I'd love to try the auto in manual mode to see what it accelarates like but I couldnt live with the car deciding what gear I should be in.

Compared to what I drive daily it's massive! Wouldn't consider A4, no need for 4 doors, and prefer A5 lines.
Is their a 3litre BiTdi on the drawing board as an A4?
According to my sales rep contact within audi, there's no immediate plans.
Hi bud, I am on my 3rd A4(B8) since 01/09/2008. first was 143ps s-line saloon....it was ok! September 2011 changed to a brand new 177ps quattro, sline A4, Saloon(which the Audi salesman convinced me to buy!!! although i new I really wanted the 3.0!!.
Well! I kept the 2.0 (177ps) for 6 months then bought a brand new 3.0 TDi S-line, Quattro, Black Edition A4 Saloon...........best car I have ever bought. Smooth, responsive, sounds great, economy good if you drive sensibly.....and you dont need to add any chips and boxes......and you have the twin pipes either side of the rear apron.....i considered a 2.0 petrol.....but NO competition. Cant wait Audi put the 3.0 Bi-turbo(313ps) into the A4....im queing now!! Ha Ha
An S4 and a Bi Turbo allroad recently joined our family! Drove the Bi Turbo on Sunday and can't wait til audi announce it as their next S4!!!!!!
Thought A5 had 4 doors.

I'm sitting about 30mpg average but the difference between normal daily driving and a decent run is huge.
For daily driving I get about 65-70 miles to a quarter tank (about 25mpg) but on a decent run today got 135 miles on a quarter tank down back roads (about 43mpg). That's with the s-tronic so not too bad.
Maybe it'll be a S4D! Would be all over that!
We'll I took the plunge and sold the 2.0 and am the proud owner of a A4 3.0 TDI S-Line Black Edition S-Tronic with Full Nappa Leather inc. door cards, Tech Pack High and loads of other stuff I can't remember finished in Daytona Grey.
Had it since Nov 1st and done over 4k already.
Currently mpg is 42.9 so I'm not too upset.
