3.0 tdi Auxiliary Belt About To Snap*** quick help

    Just noticed a strange noise from the engine bay, like something catching on something.

    Further inspection I found the auxiliary belt has strands hanging off it, it's tearing in places and needs changing asap. I ain't going to drive it until I get it sorted.

    what I want to know is how much will Audi or an Indy charge to fit a new belt?

    Also if it doesn't require to much dissembling could I do it on the roadside? Am I capable as i've done timing belts etc before but not done anything on a Audi before.

    If anyone could shed some light on the procedure or the price from a garage would be great

    Have you not got AA or RAC membership? Also your not just asking them to change the belt but find out why the belt is being damaged. If you know a good independent then take it to them, otherwise Audi would be your best bet..

    Hi,
    I had a look at mine when I took the top part of the inlet manifold off recently, I would suspect the front end would need to be put into the service position to gain access to it, other than this I think it would be quite a straight forward replacement, and if as you have said you have done timing belt before it shouldn't be a problem.

    I took mine off the other day when I changed the thermostat. it's a 2008 B8 CAPA engine so not sure if they are all the same but you need a T60 torx to slacken the tensioner. You could probably do it without putting the front in the service position if you have small hands / thin arms . I had mine in the service position though to change the thermostat.
    What year / model is the car.
    How many miles has it done ?

    Just had a look on ETKA and copied the information into a word doc. However it appears on this forum you can't upload documents more than 19K .
    If you PM me an E-mail I will E-mail you it if you want.
    You need to find out why the belt has shredded it's possible something is causing the belt to move around or is touching the belt.

    My arms ain't the smallest and I can't really get them in, is it easy putting it into the service position?

    It's not that hard getting the front into the service position once you have donme it once, I could do the passt in about 15 minutes, there are a few more things on the A4 maybe 30 minutes. You need some 10mm Threaded bar really to support the weight when you move it forward. I would be suprised if there wasn't a how to somewhere.

    Thanks for the email Karl.

    Decided against doing it myself because I don't have the time. Gave it vass specialist in Ryton who are doing it relatively cheap so should have it when I finish work.

    Had it done for £72 all in which I think is very cheap, i'm glad I saved myself the hassle now to be honest :thumbup:
