Yep the RS3 is heavy on the side walls of the front tyres, the standard Conti 5P's seem to suffer badly from this. I think it looks worse than it really is, I didn't notice any drop off in performance and the tyres wore well and fairly evenly across the rest of the tread pattern.

I'd say it's definitely the driving that did that to the tyres yes, kerbing a wheel/tyre doesn't normally take chunks out. If you push into corners a little too fast (easily done given the power on tap), especially with the ESP on the RS3 will cope with an counter your enthusiasm but at the cost of front tyre life. I'm hoping the Michelin Pilot Super Sports with their special outer wall composition hold up much better.

Blimey that's not what I imagined at all when you said side wall, I was thinking tread block damage. I take back what I said, that damage looks very much like kerbing!

    Woa! Woa! Woa!

"should have checked the tyres over" and "superglued them"

These 4-rubber thingies are your ONLY contact with the road guys...

340BHP and 450Nm and "should have checked/superglue" are we serious here?

Shocking behaviour by Audi, anything to save a few ££ on their part. Whatever you decide on replacement don't get them from Audi - they wanted £50-£100 more per tyre than the web/local tyre places!

I have no idea if this is true but the local tyre fitter claims that the new car tyres like Conti's on our cars have only 5mm tread from new rather than the 8mm on replacement tyres. I've driven a few new cars but never thought to check the depth of the tread. If it's true we really are being had.
