hi,can anybody help?the roof goes down as it should, when coming up the windows go down, the hood cover comes up then the hood starts to lift then stops as if it,s still locked in,any info greatly appreciated.

do a full manuel reset and lock out its in your manuel, this should reset all the system / sensors then try again

hi,done this 3 times,still no good,checked sensors,all working,thanks

When you have a look on Vagcom, 26 for the roof, the measuring blocks should tell you what position the sensors think they are in

does anyone know where the rooftop lock switch is,this is what is coming up on the diagnostic check as an an active fault.

What is the actual vagcom/vcds fault ?? is it implausible position and what is the actual error code.

if its implausible position, then you need to reset the values of all the switches with the adaptation channel 1 , and then manual open the roof with the key and perform a manual open and then close procedure, this will tell the switches what values they can goto when opening and closing the roof

I know you have said you have done it, but did you set the values to zero with vagcom first ??

ok,i think it will have to go to a specialist, any recommendations?bedfordshire area

hi,apparently the code is 1997,saying open top lock switch, locked or without voltage and switch position,i think this fault developed after the battery was changed, does this help?thanks

Hi Guys,

Wonder if anyone can help :=)... by girlfriends sister is in a bit of money mess and needs to sell her audi A4 S4 convertable, problem is, the roof doesnt work properly which sort of kills the value of the car:(. I have scanned it with a friends VAG and found :
VAG-COM Version: Release 704.1
Address 26: Auto Roof
Control Module Part Number: 8H0 959 255
Component and/or Version: VSG B6 CABRIO 6286
Software Coding: 0000000
Work Shop Code: WSC 00652
1 Fault Found:
02000 - Switch Position
008 - Implausible Signal

The roof starts to fold up, boot opens and then it stops :-( .. From what I can see it looks like Rear lid contact switch is always showing closed even when its open .... could this cause this? anyone know where it is?

Many thanks

mark

Hi, yes - multiple resets :-(. Liverpool (UK). Any ideas?

I think what you need to do is, when you do a manual open and are using the manual key on the rear lid, whilst someone is holding the back window vertical, unlock and lock the rear lid a few times and see if vagcom recognises you unlocking it

or do a manual opening and lock the roof in the boot, then try the open button.

I got a 2004 A4 convertible 1.8t
and to day my roof made a bang sound then stoped, i lost my hand book and had to try and close it, when i turned the car off the roof floped down and i managed to fold it back and drive it in the open mode, once home i located the key to do this so i locked it and closed it a few times but when i use the switch it, it only moves to the close part then stops the boot cover stays open or sometimes it opens at the wrong time its as if the roff has no idea of where to should be or what it should be doing? i been looking all over the net but no answers to what the problem, io called audi and they said its 150 an hour, and to be fair i cant be spending that on a fault that i am not going to get fixed coz they will want more, then after reading a few bits on this site i see there is a lot of things going on with the roofs, so HELP!!! i called the RAc but the guy saiud they dont have the right things for it and said go to audi or find someone with the plugin who can code this fault,im in the romford area but travel up and down to the bedford area so if anyone can help me out im happy to even pay but not loads as im no rich man cost the engine went the other week and set me back £3500, so moneys short, but is there a reset,

I know this is an old thread, but I'm facing the same problem with the same codes 02000 - Switch Position
and 008 - Implausible Signal. I've manually folded the top down and up, but the same error occurs. The boot cover doesn't doesn't open when it's supposed to. Then the top just closes itself again, but fails to lock closed.

I have a vag-com, but don't know how to "reset the values of all the switches with the adaptation channel 1". Could you offer some specific instructions on doing that? I can access the controller with the vag-com, I click Adaptation, enter "01" as channel, click "Read". I have "1" as "Stored Value". Thanks.

I had same exact problem 2000 Switch position fault ocurred first but after clearing with Ross Tech Vag, didn't return and the roof retracts all the way to rear lid compartment ...then stalls. The rear lid doesn't seem to want to power up and continue the opening sequence. I'm hesitant to blame this on the ECU bulletin ( inclined fault trigger requires B software upgrade) if its either the F201 Rear Lid Compartment switch thats fouled or a hydraulic pump problem. Two questions for anyone before I drop $350 on the ECU :
1) Does anyone know how to measure the F201 sensor? It doesn't show anywhere on the Vag Com diagnostics and I cannot locate it from any Audi bulletin precisely. Somewhere in the rear pillar/roof frame right side.
2) Would hydraulic pump work to pull the roof up off front locks, and retract all the way back to lid compartment but not be strong enough to lift the lid ? The Ross Tech wikis nor anything I've read instructs on how to check Hydraulic pump efficacy. Why would it pull the roof pistons and not the lid ?

The dealer wanted $2500 to fix this. Replace the ECU plus the front lid latching motor ( which wasn't broken, the screws were just loose so it wouldn't screw down...I took it off the hood and tightened screws....perfect !)

So $350 is better than $2500 but I just want to make sure a simple switch f201 realignment won't do the trick first. Problem is..I can't find the darn thing or diagnose it!!!

Sorry to butt in here but i didn't think that this was worth a new thread, i just wanted to know the name of something. the shelf in the boot that needs to be down for the roof to be open, what it's called? need a replacement but i can't find a unit because i have no idea of the name.

many thanks and sorry.

david

All be very careful to blame sensors when the roof is not functioning (even though they do come up on vagcom). It is useful to note that an implausible signal means that the control unit is receiving a signal that it cannot believe and does not necessarily mean the switch is faulty. For instance if the roof motor is to fail during operation, the ecu will think to itself that the motor is still functioning and will hence probably think a microswitch is giving an "implausible" signal. Implausible signal fault codes are also generated when things are out of sync.

I have put a guide together on how to clean the communtator on the hydraulic pump motor (which was the fault in my car)
