I've just seen you can get an A6 with a 2.7 TURBO engine... Surely that must be a quick only lump? All the V6 torque with the turbo tunability... ?

I was looking at them a couple of years ago, If memory serves they push out 230 bhp as standard. Most Ive seen advertised have been with auto boxes though. A manual with reasonable miles would be a good car to land....

230bhp and 250bhp in the A6... as per Juss's comments, not sure ont he intercoolers / twin scroll status though: I thoguht they were just tuned for more torque to haul the heavier car around....

A6 v6 2.7t are identical to a s4 but tuned for torque not power. there is plenty of options a mate of mine used to have a 520bhp a6 2.7t (had rs4 engine but everythign else was standard i.e. gearbox etc) and my passat running 450bhp is all a6 under it .

...so what you saying is, is I could slip a A6 2.7t into my bay (after adjustments) ??

So to confirm the 2.7t is Bi-turbo then....:eyebrows:...

Mind you id rather go witht he S4 engine if they are identical BUT would the price of a A6 2.7t be alot cheaper than buying the branded B5 S4 engine??

Juss there was a 2.7T (Bi-turbo) on the C5 A6 Avant... however the remappers (e.g. AmD) are "only" claiming a 70bhp increase... so 300-320bhp. Nothing to sneeze at, but it's NOT a remapped RS4... I guess it's probably S4 hardware??

Not sure what the difference was between the S4 and RS4 on the B5's (aside from styling and engine mapping): intercoolers / turbo specs?

The B5 S4 was an easy 320-340bhp compared to the A6
    B5 S4 and differences in short ,
The RS4 had K04s not KO3s bigger intercoolers , different down pipes , inlet system is different and on and on
in summary the RS4 and S4 B5 platforms engines ancillaries have lots of differences
not sure on the A6 versions i never had one to study them.

Yeah the B5 S4 is 260bhp standard is it?? and k03s turbo's IIRC (hence why some S4 owners go for the k04 turbo upgrade!
I never realised the a6 2.7t was a TWIN turbo either but are they k03S turbo's I take it?

Lost : So really it wouldnt be worth thinking about the A6 lump then, instead its the S4 2.7t engine to go for all day long.

Id love to know if the transplant was feasable because id defo be up for that....aslong as it doesnt labour ridiculously into thousands just to install and set up. Id buy a Salvage B5 S4 and do it that way.

It's possible, but as mentioned above, the S4 lump needs lots of work doing to it to become an RS4 lump. Lots of S4 owners have done this and more, on the 246 and SRS forums.

Many B5 S4's have 475-550bhp, mainly because they've changed all the bits and then upgraded the turbos again, to RS6 or RS4/6 Hybrids, which you need to get over 500...

TIAL turbo's seem to be flavour of the month, giving similar performance if not slightly more than RS6 turbo's, for c£2500...

Go on J7USS you know you wanna!!

That would be one special B6... The B5 RS4 lump is a much smarter B6 shell... Mmmmmmmmmmmm

Get yourself onto SRS - a good caric and loads of techie stuff too.

My B5 S4 with mods was the most tractable and smooth power delivery i have ever had out of a car and pretty much the fastest car ive ever owned just not the best ,
that engine in a B6 would be awesome and really unique
the V8 S4 is nice with a nice engine note but it doesnt in my opinion hold a candle to the V6 biturbo lump
    GO FOR IT .

wo wo wo guys slooooowwww down, it was just a thought......a thought that has been in my head since my Red Devils engine blew up.

Id be happy with the B5 S4 Lump anyday but its just getting/finding someone to do it.
I dont want any headaches, just pay someone a Lump, throw them the engine and work their magic!

so lets see....buy a salvage Avant (...or S3 as mentioned in my other thread) or Buy a salvage B5 S4 (..or just an S4 engine) and throw my money at that.... I know which one id rather do but will it cost me both legs, an arm and my a**hole to fund it!!!

Point me in the right direction ol'fella, no harm in looking into it with a little detail hey. Ive already seen an engine for £1500 on fleebay, then gearbox....then loom.......then....

May aswell buy a full motor for 3.5k aint I!

Ive asked the 'Ziners' aswell about the fitting compatability side of things...

To be honest, no engine conversion is major work!

Ive put a 2.0 turbo engine out of a cavalier into a Mini, so a S4 engine should be simpler!

As I said, Im only looking into it but from what ive gathered so far its a very expensive job including the Engine, box, loom etc...then you got the turbo's that every breaker is selling seperate, intercoolers bla bla.Thats why I said id rather buy a B5 S4 and strip everything out that I need but to be honest from what few Ziners have said its not straight forward at all BUT no harm in investigating the task eh!

You can get real cheap B5 S4's these days, seen some for £3200 even.So lets do the math...say £3500 for the car, £1500 - (I just plucked that figure) for someone (with the Know how) to do my conversion...hmmm but then its the settin up, adapting it and all the expected teething probs.Doesnt sound tooooo bad but 5k-6k out of the reserve pot (which is supposed to be towards a bigger deposit for my next house) somehow I dont think I can persuade the mrs.lol...

Least if im going the other route of buying salvage as mentioned in my other thread, Ill get something back (from the mrs current motor) if she keeps whatever I get her...but hey, I get something back from splittin the rest of the S4

I still like the sound of the S4 engine swap though and besides not really being able to afford both projects,I need more confirmation, preferrably from someone who has done close to it!

In fairness 'major work' is a subjective term, by your sig you must be a (specialist) garage. To me, and I imagine 95% of other forum members an engine swap is major work, let alone form one type of car to another!

    Good luck my friend

Won't the newer B5 immobiliser and wiring loom be much more difficult ot match up to the B6 than the 80's electronics system in the Cavalier?

Never even looked under the bonnet of one of those, but I know that's the major headache when people post the VAG 1.8T engines into other cars (Elises, Mk2 Golfs, etc)... physically, it will be a much easier swap than a 2.0T into a Mini (since they do put V8's in the B6's) and it's not like the drivetrian will need any re-enforcing... but the immobiliser and electronics will be the headache.

But it would be the ONLY B6 RS4 running in the UK...

There's a very high specced B5 saloon running 500bhp for sale at the moment. A bit leggy but fantastic specs, at £6k. You could actually break it up for more than £6k. The brakes alone (RS6) would fetch £1500.

All depends on power levels you're after? If you're after up to 350bhp, then the S4's will be fine on the K03s. If you want more you need K04s, which'll cost you c£3k fitted alone. They'll help take you up to 500bhp. If you want to go above 500, you'll need larger turbos again, either TIALs, RS6's or RS4/RS6 hybrids...

There's a few chaps on 246/SRS that could do it.

There's one conversion just completed in Ze Fatherland, which has just fitted a C5 RS6 engine into a B5 RS4...! Oh my....!!

The best engine's though are the 3.0L short blocks. 7-800bhp easy, but c£30k engine work :(

Mine will be for sale shortly. Found one with 550bhp coming up... Oh yes........

I have. BHP is really addictive. It was only 14 months ago I had a 1.8T 190 tweaked to c230bhp, which I was quite happy with! The b6 V8 was lovely but quite lazy. The RS4 although older is much more 'special' in every way. The tuning potential (money dependent of course) is never ending and it goes on alot. There are many RS4's in the UK with over 500bhp. And some with over 700bhp. Lots of money with those fellas though. Mainly rich guys or owners of tuning shops...

It's so difficult trying to explain what these cars are like to drive and live with. Standard they're brilliant. Tuned they're feckin awesome.

    Simple as.

So, for about the same cost as mine, I can get one with alot more ooomph!! 0-62 in 3.5s ? 180+mph ?!

Nothing can touch it apart from something REALLY expensive.

Interesting reading - I've often wanted / dreamed about buying an S4 - however you felt it was sluggish?
    I'm thinking a B7 A4 2.0T with a Revo maybe the answer then?

Yeah I can see where you coming from. My 2nd impreza was tuned up to 340bhp and had silly torque by the owner who had it before me with all these little tweaks and I thought that was fast so with the power your talking about...well what can I say! Go for it mate if its affordable, why not. If my trade stands likes it did last year then ill be laughing but being self employed - it can be scary still.
The problem I have when it comes to splashin out, I always think..."hmmm, another grand and I could do this...then another grand I could also do that" then the thought of having a dead patch with my trade creeps up again. My original target was Upgrade the red one, then BLP had it off me and I thought what the hell, ill go for an M3 instead, something different....then along came the Blue one and I caught the same bug I had with the red one....but the same thought comes up with the new shape S3 - thats what I want....but then I think with that money I could do **** loads to mine or even go for a B5 RS4. I have no lines that are drawn.lol

    Didn't say sluggish, said lazy.
It's very deceptive on how quick it is, but it's a NA engine, so power delivery is very linear. Turbo cars give you a big push in the back, or rather they should do...

a 2.0T is better IMO, as a tweaked 2.0T will get you up to 265ish, and be alot lighter/nimbler than the S4...

I have the same dilemma's about spending money on cars rather than the mortgage, or holidays... Shoes are a difficult decision, but I suppose the nipper MUST have them occasionally....

Yes I know. But the RS4 BiTurbo had a lot of additional (internal) work done to it, not just bigger turbos (K04 vs K03)...
The Rs4 came out in 2000-2002.

    It's being advertised as a S4/RS4 engine...

You need to speak to Siena, bet he could tell you if it's doable and poss be up for the challenge. He's put two V8's into B5's already http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/showthread.php?79781-V8-Into-A4-B5-II

Personally I quite fancy an old S2 Coupe or an RS2 Avant, but the RS2 is still a lot of cash really. Lots of S2's with RS2 turbos etc pushing decent power for around £4k :sly:

That's my point. It shouldn't be advertised as a RS4 lump.
    It is an S4 lump.
