Further to my thread below about Double Flushing Multitronic oil change, I am also going to get my turbo checked as I have conflicting advice on overboost.

Midland Turbo at Nottingham are Garrett Turbo specialists and have told me that they can put my turbo on their test rig and tell me if it has any faults. If it has they will completely recon it in two days and charge about £350 which sounds very good to me.

Can anyone advise me of either how to get the turbo off, or of a good VAG technician in the North Lincolnshire area who could remove it for me, please?

I have had a good look at the turbo and the 4 bolts to the manifold and 3 bolts to the exhaust don't look too bad, but I cannot see how one could get at or remove the oil return pipe which must be fixed underneath in some way. Being right at the back of the engine, accessibility is not great.

Any help would be much appreciated. Chrisavant :tocktock:

I've read something on this, remind me in the morning and I will attempt to relocate it.

One of the bolts is a pain to get at even with bent spaners- the only way i can undo that is by using a stubby spanner but there is not much leverage you can apply on to it. Audi use shity self locking nuts wich rust with time and you will find these quite a pain. The oil drain pipe is bolted to the underside of the turbo and only slots into the hole, however it needs carefull turning/routing on removal/refitting as they bend easy and a new seal is needed every time. I would see a good vw specialist first just to make shure the turbo is at fault, if you dont mind traveling, i am based in N. London and i know a thing or two about them engines...

iv done my Turbo twice, there are 4 bolts, there is 1 that is a right sod to get at, i used a stubby spanner to get at in the end, the oil pipe just comes out with some slow pulling and turning, take off the heat sheild 1st! a good touch is always hand,

before you re-install the new turbo, treat it to some new bolts from Audi for about £1 rather than putting the old ones back on, i also used WD40 for taking off and putting the bolts back on!

I'll maybe take you up on this offer; many thanks. My son lives in N London and I think he is about to ask me to go and help with a bit of diy, so may well be in your area before too long. I'll contact you just before if it comes off. Thanks again.
