My mechanic has suggested changing the cam variater at the same time as changing the chain and tensioner.

my only issue is the fact that its a £400 suggestion, is it something that should be changed at 97k? Baring in mind that my car is still on its original clutch, which I think is pretty dam good for a quattro, so basically I don't hammer it everywhere.

I wanted to do this without changing the variater coz of the price, but also I don't want to pay more labour charges if its something that should be changed. Any help would be great :)

Are the 2.0 TFSi's (B7) cam chains then?

I always assumed they were belts.

Belt on 1 side, chain on the other side, already changed the belt. Audi recon the chain is an "unserviceable part" yet mine sounds like a tank! So I'm doing it to be sure.

    Hi Craig

    What does the chain drive?

Hi chris, as far as I'm aware the belt runs the inlet cam, then at the back the chain runs the outlet cam, running off the inlet cam. Mite be the other way round, but that's the general gist of it
