2.0 TDI CR noise when changing gear

Hi all, my wife's 2009 A3 2.0 TDI CR 140 makes a slight whooshing/whirring noise when changing up a gear, most noticeable going from 1st, 2nd and 3rd. The noise occurs when you press the clutch down and lift off the accelerator and the revs start to drop. Only lasts for a second. Any ideas what it may be?

I believe it's a wastegate sound, and that's OK. I have PD (actually it doesn't matter in this situation) and mine does it too. From my experience, when you have the highest boost on the lowest RPM (that's enough to start from the bottom, go full throttle and release around 2k RPM) you will get this sound quite loud. To avoid this don't let the turbo to spool up ( ) or change gears at higher rpm.

Thanks for the reply, it just seems strange that this sound has only just become noticeable.
