2.0 FSI booked in to AMD!!! Wahoooooo!!!

    Just got off the phone with AMD and the car is booked in!

    They are lowering the car by 45mm and doing a remap as well. The remap should now take full advantage of the k&n filter and powerflow exhaust!

    I will give a full review when i get the car back on Thursday, stay tuned for pics as well!

    Expect a massive change in throttle response, as the DBW will be set more agressively.

    I'm sure you'll love the overall changes... See if you can scan and post the before/after plots... Enjoy!

    You're chipping a 2.0 FSI naturally aspirated engine? How much is that going to cost? What sort of gains are you expecting?

    Costing about £450

    Bhp gain anything from 10bhp to 20bhp
    Torque is sort of the same

    But its not really for the gains, its for the way the car drives, as Jaminben said, the throttle responce will be much better and so on.

    Don't waste your money on a remap on a normally aspirated car (i.e. non-Turbo), £450 for a max of 15% more power and significantly worse fuel economy isn't good value IMHO - the effect will be like you have a really heavy foot, all of the time.

    When I had my 4Motion remapped, I got better fuel consumption (may have been because I didn't have to be as heavy with my right foot to get the same effect) and the sharper throttle response made the car much more fun to drive, even without taking into account the power/torque increase. IMHO it's money well spent - bare figures rarely tell more than half the story.

    Thanks, AMD said that in all cases fuel economy has been increased, and to get the car to run its very best, all of the time, computer perfectly matched to car, for only £450 isnt bad if you ask me! Anywho, will let you know what its like!

    You really do need to own a 2.0FSI for a while to realise what he means about throttle response, mine used to accelerate quicker as I was lifting off!, I thought of a remap but put the £450 towards a 2.0T instead

    Chipping a normally aspirated car is just the modern equivalent of getting it dynojetted and re-timed.

    It should make a very satisfying improvement to the throttle reponse and power delivery characteristics. Usually resulting in better fuel consumption on a light throttle / regular use.

    I've had a REVO on my 2.0TFSI, allegedly 260BHP / 300lbft. But its the throttle response and mid-load improvements that are the most pleasing, not the outright power.

    Let us know the results.

    Don't forget though your £500
    + equalled 60 bhp and about 75lb/ft of torque, and turned your nice friendly car into a TT beater.

    Have to agree that makes so much more sense, even though £450 will probably only count towards a fraction of what would be needed to trade up.

    It's an age-old debate; modify your existing car or spend the money buying a more powerful version. Reminds me of the tuned-Escort XR3i vs RS Turbo debates from years back!

    Then I also spent the £450 I had'nt spent on the 2.0FSI, and had put towards the 2.0T having the 2.0T remapped............................ /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/noidea.gif

    DBW = Drive By Wire, the name given to the electroncally controlled throttle.

    Your go-fast pedal is only connected to a rheostat, which sends its signal to the computer which, in turn, opens and closes the throttle.

    The remap will likely change the ratio of pedal angle to throttle angle.

    This is very intersting, and i am looking forward to the outcome of the remaped 2.0 FSi

    The main reason why i have not had my 3.2 remaped is the fact there is very little gain.

    And to be honest i cant see if its possible to note any extra throttle response as its so quick anyway.
