Hi all, recently my a3 2.0 tdi cr engine (cffb) has started tapping/ticking when cold.

The oil level is fine as is the coolant level, no warning lights present on the dash and no loss of power or anything.

Feels the same as it always has other than this slight noise.

It’s probably due another oil change which I will be doing ASAP.

Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue, sort of sounds like a dry hydraulic lifter.

I'm not aware that these cars have problems with "sticky lifters". Certain BMW models had quite bad problems linked to poor oil maintenance and/or unsuitable oil that was too thick when cold. Typically the problem would start to emerge in the cooler Autumn weather. Something like a oW-30 (or in the case of certain BMW engines 0W-40) engine oil would cure it. I would start with an oil change perhaps using a VAG approved (504/507) oil with the viscosity 0W-30 and perhaps do a couple of changes over a year to naturally and gently wash out any slight sticky sludge or varnish build up. It's worth a try and in any event your engine will love it :yum:
