evening, i have a question about tyre size, my quattro sport is fitted with the 17" 5 spoke alloy wheels, i want to upgrade to a set of 18" wheels, i have seen a set i like that are fitted with 225/40/18 tyres.

Will this size tyre cause any issues with the quattro system? only a lot of the posts i have seen recommend having 235/40/18 tyres fitted.

The new wheels would be 18 x 8 with offset of 42

    thanks

They'll be fine as long as they're all the same size. 235 was the standard fitment on A4's with 18's, some people fit 225's as they're cheaper.

Mine came with 225 but swooped them for 235 when I was due my next set and not only did they look better on the rims the car seemed to instantly feel better to drive...

Why 235/45R18? The correct size is 235/40R18 anything bigger in width or profile height will start resulting in rubbing or catching over bumps and when fully loaded and your speedo being incorrect. An 8x18 with et 45 and a 235/40R18 works fine on a B6 and if you have a sport the arch gap looks ok. If it's not a sport dropping it 35mm would look a bit better because non sports tend to look a little 4x4 with 18's on without lowering. Hope that helps.

225/40's are 8mm dia o/a smaller so speedo will be slightly (more) out

    the 235/40/18's are a standard S4 fitment (and i believe B7 s-line's).

    i have s4 avus 18's on mine

Many thanks for the replies, interesting about the 235's feeling better to drive, I will go with the 225's that are fitted with the package though until they need replacing. Just need to make my mind up on what wheels. When i first got the car i wanted R36 style, but since seeing a B6 with Gallardo wheels the R36 seem a bit plain. Also am tempted by the TT RS replicas!!, any opinions welcome:wacko: GALLARDO copy.jpg r36_copy.jpg TT RS copy.jpg

You car looks sweet Neil. I don't think I've ever seen a white Gmbh kit before.

Wheel wise, I'm torn between the Lambo reps and the S5's.

Pay the extra few quid in the package to go 235 if they want a deal then they will do it

i like the lambo's not so keen on the rotors imho the b6 suits simple solid wheels (avus / slines ) rather than the light spoke types.

as QJ said the sport kit in the white is cool as:icon_thumright:

thanks guys, the car is wrapped in gloss white vinyl, underneath it is Atlas Grey. I'm going to go for the lambo's, the extra cost for 235's over 225's is £100. Now is it worth the extra money???

My main concern would be what tyres they are putting on there. An extra over cost of £100 would suggest a mid range tyre but I would check first. Avoid cheap nasty Chinese budgets.

I have 225/40r18 on my 18x8J alloys and can't say I have any problems with them, but, as I always run 225's on 18's I can't really comment whether the 235's would be better.

Hi, i haven't done anything about this yet as i remembered the car needed it's MOT & the service reminder turned on!, so thought i better wait & get this done first as knowing my luck if i blew money on new wheels there would be a nasty surprise come MOT day. Anyway got it serviced yesterday, and passed MOT so all fine for another year.

Now just got to make my mind up on the lambos or another new choice A5 reps a5 copy.jpg
