I've been to see my local Audi about remapping and they have said they aren't bothered if my car is remapped, they will still do any warranty work if required so I am thinking of going ahead with it if I can find a map that suits me. They recommended a company in Cumbria called Turbo Chips. Never heard of them? Has anyone else?

The only one I can find info online about is the bluefin http://www.mybluefin.co.uk/apps.php

I know these guys do it but they are too far away http://www.richtersport.co.uk/

Oettinger do a map aswell but not sure how much it costs or if anyone near me does it.

There must be more than these lot? Revo dont list it on their site so not sure if they do it for the 170?

Any experience of remaps on 170 or just general advice appreciated!

edit - updated list of companies found so far, may be useful to others in future

    http://www.mybluefin.co.uk/apps.php - claimed increase of 27bhp & 57 lbft
    http://www.richtersport.co.uk/
    http://www.revotechnik.com/ - claimed increase of 40-45bhp & 60-70lbft
    http://www.giacusa.com/programs.php?mpid=241 - no info
http://www.angeltuning.co.uk/pdfs/carmake/Diesel7.pdf - listed as coming soon
    http://www.celtictuning.co.uk/Car Tuning/vehicles/audi/Audi-a3-mk2-ecu-remap-chip-engine-tuning.html - claimed increase of 40bhp & 67lbft

    This isn't getting any easier!

I got my dealership to do mine for me (Hitchin). They use RichterSport and I'm pretty happy with the results. Which dealers is your local?

Rather not say incase it lands them in trouble!

Wish there were more people that had remaps on the 170 with different manufacturers cos I feel like I'm going in blind at the moment! Be good to get some feedback first!

I'd get that in writing before going ahead.

I wouldn't take much notice of some of these claims of 45bhp gain on a PD170!

I'd say expect 15-20bhp max as they are already tuned to a large degree from the factory.

I 2nd that get it in writing beforehand

The Revo claims if you look at the current list of maps available for the derv's seems to be related to the 140 not 170 based on your link quote of 40-45bhp increases, so he's also correct 15bhp increase on standard map for the 170 as he also has stated 170 is tuned anyway for the increased 30bhp over 140, so from other AS discussions its been mentioned you would get only upto what the 140 will do max on standard map unless you start changing parts, I've only known a 15-45 bhp increase on stock setup of standard maps on the 140/170 derv's

    If this now makes sense

Nigel the link refers to the 170 not the 140 also the performace claim is not 45BHP! it is 25BHP as they Rolling Roaded the standard 170 at 190BHP. If i went in with my 170 and got 195 i would be happy with the 25BHP increase as it is very difficult to tune 170's due to the DPF. If i walked out with 215 as my 170 was closer to 190 standard i would be estatic! Either way Tunners are starting to get the 170 DPF sorted.

actually 191.2 to be precise, lol, but I was referring to the conflict between the title of thread & the 1st post Revo quoted link not the 170 revo link if that makes sense, maybe I should have quoted the 1st link anyway to make it more understandable my comments.

    But I hear yer.

I think there's been some misunderstanding here & confusion, ok the 1st post was mentioning the revo remap & the quoted 40-45bhp, the only listed one on the revo site/link at the time under uk was for the 140 with 40-45 increases, so I was just commenting the 40-45 wasnt related to the 170 remap but the 140, is it clearer now??? Also from my previous questions on AS the 170 was only mapped upto the same as the 140 would be on standard map, the fact Revo are getting 20+ above standard is bloody good & surprising TBH.

Only further down someone did post a new link for News on revo's site about the 170 which I missed, but anyway I will update my post to make it clearer

    Ahh, much clearer now...

Most tuners claim 210+ for a mapped 170 TDI these days. Now Revo have dropped their price to £399 (from £499) it's far more tempting. Just worried about frying the clutch with all that extra torque

its aggressive full stop isnt it on all of them as I had the revo on my S3 & I think on my S4 which didnt really notice as much as S3 given naturally aspirated & different call full stop TBH

yeah thats the main thing I also worry about & my friend Simon@AMD said it isnt adviseable on the DSG to go above the 185 quoted power with stock parts, I think on the manual its probably possible & ok with consideration for an uprated clutch at sometime or maybe not, but to add to this I remember few weeks back someone chirped in that in the US the DSG has been successfully & non problematically mapped to the said levels you're quoting & above I believe, problem with the DSG derv is you end up with wheel spinny all the time & I have to say with my DSG after using 4wd for 7 years I hate 2wd tbh which is why I'm considering a jump back to 4wd via an 8P S3 or an A4 3.0 avant B7 tip as I loved my S4 B6 avant, just the economy was 16mpg which I couldnt justify since I had an S3 & S4 at the time, 2 juicy cars urm no thanks.

I do miss my S3, but alas everything has its time huh, including us, hopefully for alot longer, lol.

I find it hard to believe that a standard PD170 would put out an extra 20bhp.

2-5bhp is acceptable but 190bhp in standard form is just an innacurate dyno IMO.

Yeah someone please explain to me how they got 190 from a stock 170 car without any mods at all?

Just intrigued how they got that without a map

I'm more bothered about smoother and better driveability than out and out power. Just put the claimed increases for information. Mine doesn't 'feel' like 190bhp.

Does anyone know what sort of torque the standard clutch will cope with without having to treat it like a baby? Dont want to start faffing round uprating clutches etc.!

I dont need to get the dealer to put it in writing about them not being bothered about it being remapped. I know them very well.

It just makes the Revo map look better because of the 'claimed' 210bhp. I guess it covers them from a legal point aswell because they do clearly state their map is only a 20bhp increase so it's not their problem if your PD170 only does 170bhp in standard form.

I'd love to see the results of a mapped PD140 and PD170 tested back to back at a rolling road day.

Means nothing unless it's on paper. Dealers are all the same and will try and wriggle out of any fault that could be attributed to a remap, even if it wasn't the direct cause.

No Revo are claiming an end result of 214bhp regardless of whether your car is 168 or 190 or whatever figure to start with.

Taken from Revo site, not saying its right or wrong but this is their claim!

So does anyone know what the standard clutch is good for?

Its generally ackowledged that REVOs figures are pretty conservative. Ive had 3 REVO remaps on petrol cars and it the dervs are half as good I quaratee you will be happy with the results.
Ive driven a MK4 Anniversary PD150 with REVO and its very very good.

My advice on dealers and reampped cars is, say nothing.
They dont know, dont look, and dont care.
    Thats speaking from experience.

    Good luck:icon_thumright:

I am not sure what a 170BHP or a 190BHP A3 feels like but after driving my '170' for 50 miles it feels stunning! whichever way there is definatly a power hike over my 130tdi A4!!!!
