Yeah - just a bit of banter... nothing more than what people should expect if you wade in with grudge against V6 quattro TDI's, in this case, based entirely on his experience of less than half the 1.9TDI range and never having driven a single one of the VP TDI's let alone any proper mileage
I think the bit about telling us that his "2000 1.8T" definitely had a 60L tank, so that's what ours should have was also a bit of a wind-up... given that this is the B6 forum.... I mean I join in on the B5 forum on occaision, but at least I make it clear my car is a B6, despite there being B5's made in the same year.

Yeah that's it it's right though good points made an if he ain't driven a v6 tdi then he should then comment but to be honest he ain't gonna drive one now with an open mind is he haha oh well

Well, just to update the thread a little. I did 415 miles on that tankful. The car took 59.24 litres in it's 66 litre tank so I had plenty left in reserve, giving an average of 32 mpg.
This isn't designed to be a comparison thread of "My 2.5 does 40" etc, nearly all my driving on this tank has been late at night, coming home from work etc so I'm happy to admit I drive the car hard and it's all on rural roads. I'm quite happy with 32, I could get more if I wanted.
I'm less happy diesel cost me 135.9 ppl
You should all get Fuelly from Fuelly.com and then come back in 6 months and see what you have all been getting!

I know from the miles I do what mpg I get within a couple which is good enough for me. If I was that worried I'd not have bought a 2.5q!
The 190 is a thirsty old beast then.
i bought mine mainly for towing my boat and caravan(not at the same time) the 1.8t is simply inadequate. the 1.9tdi passat i had previously was ok but took an age to get anywhere. and still get 22mpg when towing!
It can be if you drive it like it's supposed to be!
If I was concerned about MPG I would of got a 1.9tdi. However I am obviously a bit concerned as I didn't buy an S4!

my old mk4 golf i just got rid of had 167000 on the clock
bought a a4 cabriolet 2.5tdi and am still on the 1st tank of diesel and have done 427 miles and its not near the red yet, looking to get close to 500 miles out of it, pretty good for a heavy car i reckon
Due for my first refill after buying my cab, looks like I am going to see about 350 miles on a tank... will post calculated MPG after I fill
got 510 miles out of the last tank on my 2.5tdiQ with 118k on the clock. lots of motorway miles on that tank. very pleased considering the price of fuel

The first B6's wore a Y plate (1 Mar - 31 August 2001), I'm not 100% sure when the UK model was released, but I think it was about July?
Filled up today, based on a single fill and distance covered since the fill before, Im getting 24mpg around town etc.... could be a little better but not so bad....
i work out my mpg in 5 gallon drums! go figure!!!

I was slightly perplexed when I entered the cost of a litre that it rejected it with the error message of "Please enter a more realistic figure" - I had put in 135.9 ppl
i owned a a4 b6 2.5tdi quattro for about two years sold with about 120k on it still felt great to drive. i must say it's a fantastic engine and loads of torque when you need it but i always felt a little let down by the fuel economy for a diesel average was about 33mpg but that was carefull driving easily see it drop to 25 but on a long run might see 38-40. with the v6 i was always worried about something major going wrong and the cost of labour on that engine.
i now own an a4 b6 1.8t 190 fwd and i have to say i love it, loads of torque and you don't need to ring its neck to get it. so far averaging 35 mpg over 400 miles to a tank along with a lovely engine note gone is the sound of diesel injectors at work and even tho its fwd i reckon it handles better than the 2.5q as i heard someone put it so well, its like driving with a dead donkey strapped to the bonnet.
so i think if you want a high speed motorway cruiser or your towing something large the 2.5 makes sense
if you want a fast daily driver the 1.8t is a fabulous engine
and if you want 500+miles to a tank the 1.9 is one of the best diesel engines ever made(had a 98 1.9tdi before the 2.5)
Mine is on 184K now and a quattro so well impressed with this range on a run to Sheffield
And yes this was reset at fill up!

Alas no, mine is a 1.9 quattro. Think that was a one off though, town work kills the range just as the V6.

i had a audi 80 2.0 sport wich had 180k on it with no probs at all
but the highest milage i have eva had was on my old 90 quattro, a old f-reg 1989 i think
it had 275572 on it, red the same back to front lol
it was a stedy as a rock & nothing EVA went wrong on it
I've been driving like an old man this tank to see what happens, the result being 504 miles with the DTE at zero and an average of 37.6mpg (actual figure not DIS). I just put 61 litres into the 66 litre tank and DTE's showing 560 miles.
If I can keep it up .....

little chuckle lol quite a few years ago i brought a cavalier diesel just wanted a cheap dog so i gave £150 for it fairly tidy motor little tax n test 125k showing on the clocks visual inspection was sound no major worn steering/carpet pedal rubbers funny thing was when the log book came through and it's previous owner was a taxi branch in nuneaton so thought id ring them about the cam belt and they said they still hold the info for the car and the belt and pump was changed @ 374000k so i think somewhere its been a little doctored had to laugh though as it sailed through its mot and i abused it for a few months and sold for double or so......

Best I've had is about 450 from a tank but only ever managed to put 60 litres back in (is mine 66l as well?)
A6 would be a bit heavier I guess, not sure on the tank size, it should be in the owners manual.

interesting read. diesel vs petrol. when i was looking for a new car a few weks ago i wanted quality (audi), good looks (B6), economy (1.9tdi), performance / high end power (1.8T / S4), torque / smooth cruising ability (2.5tdi), space (avant), sex appeal (cab), so i bought a 2.0FSI saloon. oh well, you win some, you lose some. im sure most people will agree (especially those who are married) that life is a compromise. enjoy it while it lasts.
167k on my 1.8t (163) that i've recently purchased, drives like a 60k motor - SUPERB!!
Having done 35 miles the DTE is predicting 540 left.....!
