    Hello everyone
Anyone currently driving the 1.6TDI new a3 and if so what's it like?
Thinking about chopping my S3 in for one, got offered a good deal and the S3 running costs are too much for what I want to be honest.
    Thanks for any information

Had mine a year! Been a fantastic car!! Got an S Line 1.6tdi and it does/has everything i need. I can't really say much negative, but don't expect anywhere near the published MPG figures, I am not really getting anywhere near them even with sensible driving.

Its actually pretty good to be honest easily get 40''s out of it!! Don't get me wrong its a great economical car just far from the published figures! It was even better when the road tax bill of zero came through last month! I love it!

Suppose it depends on your circumstances but the 1.4 COD engines seem to be getting positive reviews on both performance and economy. I will be taking a look at it myself in a year or 2.

I have got the 2.0 TDi S Line and I am getting around 40MPG round town as well. Love the car I upgraded from a 1.6TDi Sport A1 to the A3 last week and I love it!

I'd have thought moving to a 1.6TDi would be such a change in performance and engine character it could be a step too far for the sake of better running costs. Definitely worth considering the 1.4 as it would at least have similar character to the S3 and would still give good economy.

I've gone for the diesel in the end. Liked them both but they had the diesel one in and the petrol one was red which I didn't really want and £2k more

I too have a 1.6 TDi S-line. Here is my overview from another thread post - overall I really like it.

"I came from 6 years of 1.6 petrol engines to the 1.6TDi. I haven't driven a huge variety of engines, but overall I am impressed with the 1.6 engine itself. Its pull is impressive for its size, particularly in sport mode, and it never runs out of ideas at most speeds. It certainly feels faster than it actually is, and the pokey engine combined with the quality of the car reassures you that you are in premium quality car.

Fuel economy seems excellent to me, although you only notice the true benefit on long motorway drives (in some instances I have done 300 miles on £35, in comparion to the £60-70 in my petrols).

I will always miss the smooth quiet feel of the petrol, and if my 1.6 petrols had been turbo charged, this would have been a different story. But overall, I think its a great car and engine combination"

Certainly a nice read, thanks for sharing that. Do a couple of trips from york to Dorchester a few times a year so will be a good engine especially for them trips. Even just driving the 25 miles to my mums every couple of days will show me results compared to the thirsty S3.

Andy - York - My neck of the woods as well. New Audi dealership is nice right? Apart from their shoddy salesmen!

Yeah I am very happy with the 1.6 TDI... although all I want now is an S3, perhaps someone can swap me!!

York (Osbaldwick!). I was impressed with Audi service overall but not too happy with my sales guy at times... I was impressed they even managed to get my number plate wrong. After being pulled over by the cops a few times, all became clear haha.

No not seen you yet but I'll keep a look out - you need to look out for a 1.6 S Line that drives like he thinks its an S3, haha. I'm certainly too hard on it.

Really happy with it. Like I said above, I've only had fairly small engines in the past, but this one really feels powerful for its size. Quality is amazing and the S-Line trim certainly turns heads down Coney Street... If I were you I'd go for it ;)

Very very nice. Its each to their own but I would definitely recommend tinting the windows - I think they make a big difference to the look of the new A3.

Yeah to be honest I agree with you on that and have had it in most previous cars so I'd imagine I will, did you get yours done?

Yeah but it was one of the options I spec'd when ordering. Doesn't really make a difference where its done, to be honest going to a third party will probably save you £££ for same result. It was one of the only optional extras I got apart from the comfort pack. I see you have SD sat nav - wish I had - would have been so useful.

Yeah that's one thing I didn't want to be without, having it from 2 previous cars. Coming from the S3 I still wanted some of the things I liked about it, nav, sd, FBMFSW.

I have done about 26k now and averaging about 57 / 58 mpg so this is all you are likely to get to be honest.

Mine is a company car and I have a fuel card now so don't care about the mpg anymore but if I had paid out of my own pocket I would have sold it by now due to this as it is so far off of the official figures. Otherwise my only gripes have been that you have to change gears quite a bit , the satnav is 2 or 3 years out of date and the wind noise from the B pillar is a bit disappointing. Lovely to sit in but a bit uninteresting to drive .

Thank you for your feedback on your experience. It's nice to have some constructive comments so I get a full picture, I'd be happy high end 50's, 2-3 times more than currently getting anyway. To be honest the sat nav I don't use a lot but it's just nice to have there if you need it, you can postcode search which is a bonus from the S3. I'll keep an ear out for this B pillar whistle, it over a certain speed?

    Andy ,

Around 60mpg is good and cheap company car tax is great as well . My point on the mpg was that it should be nearer the actual figures in real world driving . I have been able to get 85 MPG behind a lorry on a motorway so buying as a personal car I think they are a great bet , cheap to run and great to sit in. They should also hold their value image.jpg

I hear what your saying and I couldn't agree with you more that it should be closer to the book figure. I know they never are spot on but it is a way off I must admit

I have had a few quick cars in the past just doing low 20's mpg which is fine if you only do 5k per year I suppose , you do get used to less grunt and enjoy the drive in a different way I suppose

Yeah I've had many of different cars, especially power wise. I know I will miss the grunt, who wouldn't. I won't really have a choice but to get use too it really will I.
Ultimately it will lead to me been able to move too which been happy in your home is priceless.

My 1.6 TDI S-Line S-Tronic has done about 1700 miles now. Driving on quiet roads around town and a bit of sub urban driving I'm getting between 52 and 62 MPG driving carefully and not using too much throttle.

It's not been on the motorway cruise which I guess could return better economy. I expected better economy based on the quoted figures, but everything else is spot on. It's a great little engine and a great car. Very cheap tax too.
