I have a 2002 1.9Tdi 130 A3 and its happened twice now. I have been accelerating and all of a sudden theres a loss of power, no bang or warning lights. Just the turbo stops working, I certainly can't feel or hear it. Yet when I switch the engine off and then back on again, all is fine.

The second time it happened it stopped at about 3k revs.

Anyone know what this could be?

Could easily be a boost leak or dodgy maf throwing it into limp mode. Get checking the pipes, listening for leaks when loading up. Ideally needs scanning for faults too, as it will report a fault which may not bring up a dash warning light

It could be a sticky acctuator on your turbo, turbo over boosting and going in to limp mode.

If it is clearing after restarting ignition, its going into limp mode, you need to get it on the computer mate really....it could be anything

It's worth checking the vacum hoses under the bonnet. My car was giving fault code 17964 - Charge Pressure Control: Negative Deviation, which turned out to be from on of the hoses collapsing in on itself as it was perished. Fixed by buying 2m of 4mm, and 3m of 3mm silicone hose from these guys - eBay My World - silicone_hose_world.
Probably worth changing the hoses as an elimination attempt before you pay someone to get wired in about the turbo or valves.
