I know this is a long shot but I just need one piston to get my engine back together. It needs to be either piston 3 or 4 (aparently one/two and three/four are different).

It is for a 1998 1.9 TDI (110bhp). Engine code is AFN.

    Any help much appreciated.

    Cheers,

really!? that doesn't make much sense.
trouble is, if you get a 2nd hand piston from a dead engine you have no real way of telling if the piston is going to be good.

no one is going to break a working engine just for a piston.

why do you need one and would you not be easier to just drop in a replacement 2nd hand engine, certainly less work and will probably cost you less in parts and or labour.
piston swap you are removing the head and maybe just the sump, that is still going to cost you in new gaskets and head bolts (single use).

or are you doing something funky with it?

    Hi all,

Many thanks for the replies and the contact in Hunslet - much appreciated.

The reason I'm after just one piston is the engine ran out of control and part melted pistons 3 and 4. It wasn't until I'd taken the head off that this was visible. She's an old car and has done great service. Strictly speaking she's a write-off but it just seems improper to sell her to the knackers yard. Similarly a £600 2nd hand engine or indeed new pistons/ring etc from Audi render the project a no go. So, I've sourced one good piston so far, and if I can get another I can justify a new gasket set/rings and bolts etc.. and get her road worthy.

    Thansk for your help.

    Cheers,

Just to conclude this thread. I have sourced another piston from Bradford grinders for the princely sum of £30.

Thanks for all the input, now it's re-build time.

    Cheers,
