    Hi All,

Very quick question, I currently have a 2003 1.9TDI 130 SE which touch wood has been fantastic, I've done 24,000 in the last 16 months and it’s never skipped a beat (now 68k on the clock). I have looked after it in my time using ABTech in Southampton i.e. major service inc cam-belt, pads, air con regas, and replacing a cracked spring.

My commuting situation is hopefully changing to 3 miles a day from 80+, so I am considering changing my A4 TDI to a 1.8T petrol i.e. something a bit quicker and handles better, I've been looking at the 1.8T Avant 190BHP Sport but looking at the forum its looks like the 1.8T is a bit temperamental i.e. oil feeder pipe and other bits etc.

My last experience of the 1.8T was in a Ibiza Cupra in 2002 and that was a bag of ****, engine problems were mainly coilpacks and MAFs which I appreciate has now been acknowledged and addressed by VAG, the other problems with that car were build quality related i.e. bits breaking like window switches, boot latch etc. I part ex'd it other 4 months for a Scooby.

To be honest I am just after other owners experinece and to be reassured that the 1.8T is fine and it’s just a individual problems i.e. poor servicing related or Friday cars or damn unlucky. I am considering keeping my car and getting it REVO’d and looking at handling options but I fancy an estate as I personally think they look nicer then the saloon (just my opinion). If I change I will probably get the new one REVO'd too.

    Thanks for your time!

I've had my 1.8T Quattro now for nearly 3 years, in that time I have never had a problem with the engine. Just got it serviced from an Audi specialist and kept my eye on it. Love it but as I have the 163bhp version I am looking to get it chipped as could do with a power boost!

Hi danbaylis and welcome .I have a 190 1.8t and apart from the odd coil pack giving up (easy fix) i can say that the engine is a great piece of kit.
If you do buy a 1.8t the first thing i would do and have done is service the car as soon as you get it home,i also droped the sump and cleaned it out due most audi's now are on a two year service plan , use a good oil (twice a year ) even as you state you will be doing low miles twice a year will only set you back £100 .The 1.8t as you know can handle many upgrade's good luck.
