1.8T AVJ battery drain

    Well, I've found out what drained the battery the other day I think.

    I fell asleep on the sofa last night, woke at about 02:30. And I thought I'd stick my head through the curtains to have a nosey before retiring for the night.

    I looked out and I could see red reflections in the windows of the houses opposite.

    I went outside and found my brake lights were on!!!

    Opened the car, and touched the brake pedal with my foot and they went off...

    Think it needs a new brake light switch?

    I think the brake light circuit is live with the ignition off on our cars? If so then if the switch is shorting and completing the circuit all the time it will do yes.

    I didn't realise that. But if that's correct then they will operate without the ignition being on..

    It's an intermittent problem though, it happened during the really cold weather a couple of months back (and I put it down to the weather)

    Trip to Audi on Saturday morning.....

    I would still try freeing it first whats to lose?

    I'll give it a go with some silicone spray tomorrow. The trouble is because it's intermittent I won't be sure whether it's worked or not....

    I won't take it to Audi, just get the bit from Audi... What am I? Made of money!!!! lol

    Gave the switch a spray, but it made no difference.

    The switch that was supplied was different to the one that was fitted. It works, but I'll upload a pic from my phone momentarily.

    The one that was fitted was like the one in the PDF file on this thread, but the one I got is like thi:

    As long as it works I don't mind. I would assume the original part may have been superceded.

    Thanks, I'm not aware of them being a serviceable part (unless you're a microscopic electrician!) I hope it solves it.

    It did, Wolverhampton Audi. It's got the VW logo on it.

    When I changed my brake switch I got the one u got too. It was totally different to the one in the car. But it works absoloutley fine

    I think it may have worked, got up this morning and the brake lights aren't on. (it's worked or the battery is very flat)lol

    Will see in a moment or two when I go out to the car to go to work.
