hi guys

iv'e just noticed my 2001 1.6 a3 is not getting up to 90 on the temp display. this is also confirmed by the readout on the climate control unit.

i opened the header tank and it hardly hissed at all, so i guess this points to a faulty thermostat.

however, when i sat revving the engine to try to get it up to temp, the fans came on (air con was off) at about 78C which is not normal is it?

i am about to scan with vagcom but can anyone offer any advice on my problems?

many thanks

kevin

I had a similar problem with mine (1.8T).

I changed the thermostat about 2 months ago all was working fine at first but noticed recently that the temperature would sometimes drop off then come back up again.

I changed the temp sensor last week and this appears to have cured the problem. change the thermostat first and see what happens. If like me u still get problems, change the sensor. Both parts are cheap to buy and easy to fit.

dont go to an audi dealer to get the thermostat though kidda,

they'l sell the thrermostat seperate with every model apart from the 1.6...they will say you have to by the entire unit, with housing etc costing around 80 bux!!!

tried to sting me with this a couple of weeks ago..bloomin stealers!!

go eurocar parts and im sure ul be able to get it seperate...

funny you should say that....

my local VW dealer wanted 80 quid!!

managed to get just the themostat housing from my local specialist (audi for u, bridgwater) for 'only' £50. still a rip off for a 'stat though

you have to buy the thermostat housing as it incoporates the wiring for the electrical heating element part of the thermostat

god damn!!....

its one of them things id only get done if i win some money...I wouldnt spend my earnt cash on that...

lets hope i win poker nite on wednesday then!!
