Is this engine any good ? I see its c123 bhp but is it tuneable ? ( i assume the answer to that is "yes, eventually"

And will Audi be putting the 1.4 TSi from the Golf in ? Or does the 1.8TFSi take that place ?

The 1.4 is a brand new Bosch MED17 Tricore ECU and the response i have had is (It should tune).
The 170 PS VW 1.4 would overlap the 1.8 T-FSI so i think your answer would be NO NO NO.
The Vdub unit is supercharged and intercooled for this output i think.

Yes the vdub unit is t/c and s/c
but if the 1.4 in the Audi is only 123 bhp, what would it be remapped ? Something like 155-160 ?

Not pursued my enquiry anymore yet but i would say it would be around that sort of output.
Keep the 1.4 badge on the back and watch peoples faces as they try to pass. tee hee.
I know a local truck owner/operator who had a 14 litre 550 power unit installed but a 10 litre 290 badge on the grill.

2.0T Quattro which was a tad quicker:huh::huh: but the MPG frightened the life outta me.
To be honest it was bloody rapid :ermm::ermm:

The 140 TDI was quite good but i work with diesels all day so didnt want a tractor in the drive at home as well :huh::huh::huh:

The 1.4 in my books is a very impressive little engine and if it will tweek to 160 then it should keep the the more performance orientated people happy.

You ll find that Turbocharged engine can be tuned quite easily with a remap

The planned A1 will feature the same 1.4TFSI engine as the A3 but will run a 150bhp map which is a rough idea of what these engines are capable of, however most car manufactuing will underquote the actual power by a small margin so they dont get complaints from underperforming engines and they rarely push their engines to their full potential so there is definetly scope for 150-160bhp remaps.

Also with the new optimisation coming in the next few weeks in the engine lineup, you can expect a nice healthy decrease in fuel consumption and CO2 output.

On a side note I see VW have a 1.4Tsi Jetta in the VW cup this year and it's producing something like 260bhp...

"Whilst the 1.4 TFSI has managed 92kW (125hp) with its series production debut in the Audi A3, it achieves in the study 110kW (150 hp) at 5,500 revs/min. This engine manages a maximum torque of 240 Nm over the wide speed bank of 1,600-4,000 revs/min."

Thats nearly 1.8T performance in a 1.4T and I reckon it can still be pushed a little more!

"acheives in the study" ? What does that mean ? Remapped ? Or out of the box ? My 140 made 10% than it said in the tin in standard form..

that'd have been tuning the turbo and supercharger, though so its a different kettle of fish to the Audi unit

I appreciate that's the super/turbo charged engine but I am guessing that to get that sort of HP is the Turbo thats producing the goods. The charger is providing the low down power?

But I digress, the old Fiat uno turbo's used to produce some decent power from its 1.4 engine so I would have thought that 160-170 would be easily achievable with a remap.

Superchips' outlet in Istanbul have informed me that a chip is under development for the car and as soon as it comes I'll be getting my car done. I can't wait to be quite honest as the engine obviously has potential. It's not exactly slow at the moment either. That wee turbo gives a wee jolt.

well in theory and with money you can get 500hp or more... remember 15-20 years ago there were 1.5L Turbo engines in F1 developing more than a 1000hp.... So what I said is not silly really...

Remember tho F1 engines would have everything in that engine made and design to withstand such high BHP with state of the art metal alloys other reinforcements, true you can put a pair of high powered turbo and force the engine to burn enough fuel to produce 400+ bhp but it ll probably self destruct within the first 50 miles as commercial engines arent made to withstand so much power.

Just picked up a 1.8T FSI Sportback S-Line today. Great car, although the DSG 1st to 2nd takes getting used to I guess. Having owned a MKIV GTI 1.8T with Upsolute remap (200hp) & various mods before I think the base 1.8T FSI unit is pretty damn good in comparison. Power delivery is smooth and exhaust note and gear change blip is great. Handling on standard S-Line suspension is nothing special but more than adequate to make B road driving fun. Sport mode does make a difference to normal drive. Will probably go for a remap soon - 200hp is more than enough for FWD car I think. What makes all difference is the DSG box though, fantastic when looking to make quick progress, amazed at how good it is when I compare it to BMW & Merc auto boxes I have driven recently.

Only driven 100 miles so far (mostly in Sport) and averaging around 28mpg.

Any ideas which tuning companies have some experience with the new 1.8T FSI unit? I know this engine is pretty new to the VAG range.
