Hi guy's. I'm new to this forum and in need of a bit of advice. I'm thinking of buying my first diesel car.. an Audi A3 105bhp sportsback tdi. I test drove one and really liked it but I did notice a slight juddering in 1st gear pull away the rest of the gears are fine and silky smooth. It has covered 103k with full main dealers history so it seems to of been well maintained. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Cheers Adam.

if there is a rattle that dissaperes when you depress the clutch its a sign your flywheel is on its way out which is possible for the shudder although the most common cause is oil on the clutch plate which can mean either its got contaminated on installation or the crank seal or gearbox seal are leaking

Hi, thanks for your reply. I can't hear any rattles coming from the clutch so maybe it is gearbox or crankshaft leaking. I'm going to take the car to an Audi specialist near me to get it checked out. Thanks again.

there is an inspection hole at the top of the gearbox which comes in very handy if you can find someone with a wire camera(don't know the real name of them )

just the clutch plate.......its contaminated with oil or something, dont worry about it,i had it for 3 months, then it dissapeared.
