the best thing to do would be to get the coolant in the header tank checked for hydrocarbons if your coolant is contaminated with hydrocarbons your head gasket as gone any half decent garage can do this test for you
i thought the tt carriers had the wrong hole spacing also standard discs on a b6 are 288mm i upgraded my discs to 312mm on my b6 i kept the original calipers but i had to get the carriers from a 3 litre cabriolet
hi mate not a lot of people know that brake pads are directional . genuine audi pads have an arrow on the stainless steel spring that sits in the piston try swopping them around it solved my clunking problem straight away
or you could just treat your car to some forte diesel treatment twice a year wonderful stuff . cleans the whole fuel system on the way in . and the turbo and catalytic converter on the way out
i think you will find the problem is fluid freezing in the pipes leading to the jets . mine as heaated jets but it makes no difference . whilst we are on the subject is it true that vodka in the screen wash prevents it freezing
hi mate have you checked your catalytic converters when the internal honeycomb breaks up it sounds like a tin box full of nails this can happen through age high milage or thermal shock ie driving through deep puddles of standing water when the cold water splashes on the hot cat the thermal shock...
hi mate the only thing to change now is the temp sensor if the gauge is fluctuating this is usually the problem all the audis i have owned which is eight upto now once they have reached 90c have stayed there regardless of driving conditions or outside temperature . now there is one other thing...
you can push it in too far then it hits the sensor ring and chews the end off as i found to my cost if its moving freely in the hole push it all the way in then back it off a couple of mm
just done my thermostat on a 2.8 30 valve v6 there is no need to remove the timing belt it is possible to twist the belt vertically ie ridges pointing down this gives you enough room to remove the aliminium thermostat housing and change the stat i took the complete front off bumper radiator the...
hi mate AVS stands for audi variable servicing which basicaly means the engine monitors its self depending on driving style which means a tdi engine with this system could go an unbelievable 30.000 miles between servicing . just make sure they have a timing belt kit fitted which includes...
hi depends what year we are talking about ? my only worry at this milage would of been the timing belt but if they are having this replaced then no worries is it saloon or avant they had a bit of a facelift on the 04 reg they got a sportier front bumper different side strips at the bottom of the...
hi mate the thermostat is located just below the drivers side cam shaft pulley i am afraid its a bumper and front panel off job it sits behind the timing belt but it is possible to replace it without removing the timing belt a bit tricky none the less possible hope this helps
hi mate i think you have had this noise for a while but now it is being transfered to the cars body through the stiffened mounts rubber mounts on there own would of absorbed the sound thats why manufacturers spend millions developing rubber bushes not just to support components but also to...
my a6 2.8 quattro avant was exactly the same its done 118000 this was when i was using castrol edge 5x30 fully synthetic i am now using total quartz 10x40 semi synthetic and the oil usage as more than halfed also the engine seems to run smoother and quieter
never take for granted that a new part is a good part in the past i have replaced two thermostats on my cars only for them to be faulty so now i pay the extra and get them from audi i am not saying audi thermostats cant be faulty its just that i have yet to get a bad one
yes its the jets that are heated but as i have said previously the water freezes in the pipe feeding them so if it cant flow to the jets it cant be heated
the trouble with heated washer jets is the pipe feeding them freezes thats where the blockage is the jets work fine but with no water being fed to them they are the next best thing to useless
just been out in my 2.8 quattro on very snowy slushy icy roads no problems going forwards or backwards but theres not much to be gained in towns and cities as all the 2 wheel drive cars are going very slow in front of you also just remember quattros have 4 patches of rubber on the road like any...
