Astra 1.9d is a surprisingly quick car. We were having a joke many years ago when my friend had one as a hire car and I had a spanking new Mk5 R32 golf. Chased each other home and it was nearly impossible to overtake him!!! I only JUST had the edge! Very depressing night. (..R32 sounded good...
If your going to do a conversion on the car you love why go 1.8t? It'd be MUCH cheaper to buy one.. if you want to be a bit different why not take the 3.2 and mounts out of a crashed Audi TT?
Now a 3.2 A3 would make sense.. more sense than doing it to an S3 like the guy on you tube... plus it'd...
F**K that is a NASTY accident. I've been there and can only say whilst it does change you a bit. Not imediately but your probably going to have a few low months and feel a different person. Happily I assure you it doesn't last forever and you'll soon stop "re-living the moment" so you can get...
Interesting I'm on an APY engine code. Isn't that the golf code?? Although it is the one all the Golf boys want so still with stronger internals I believe. Anyone with more info?
Your mate is lying to you about the fuel! Trust me. I got 35mpg once by sitting at 60mph and rolling down hills. If I drove it like I do the S3 the S3 returns 25-28mpg over a tank and the R32 returns 14-19mpg over a tank. (MK5 R32 maybe worse though?)
I've a LONG history of cars. For me the S3 is great because it merges into the background / is acceptable everywhere from a row of shopping cars to a row of sports cars.
Its economical on a run and yet (especially chipped) just that bit quicker than you expect it to be. I and I'm sure many...
:icon_thumright: You wont be disappointed. Its nigh on impossible to make the S3 oversteer in the dry (believe me I have tried), it still just lifts the inside back wheel and hoons its way through the corner even if you throw it in over the limit! The difference is that turn in is now...
He's completely on the money there. Really got through to what I like about the car and why I bought it:icon_thumright:. He might be getting a little overcome with his popularity now but he is unquestionably good at understanding cars.
I bought a Mk5 R32 when they first cam out. Only car I've ever bought from new. One of my favourite cars I've ever owned, grip is amazing and sound is like nothing else in this market! All in all a great buy but two really big flaws in the car were
1. Understeer on turn in (so much so that my...
Excellent to hear! I'm surprised the S2000 did so well having taken one for a very spirited drive myself I was dissapointed to say the least. The Z4MC I bought later that day would have crushed it (which is basically the same as your M3 under the skin).
p.s. Uprated ARB's make a HUGE...
I'd love to know the definitive answer to this from someone who's tested it and snapped a rod?
I've heard all manner of different figures from people and really all you can find are guesses. From my past experience of other cars I'd say your a long way from breaking rods until you get to...
Ha! Your only at the begining!!! Does anyone have any stories of how they fixed everything and then it was amazing??
Mine has been the most wonderful money pit I've ever owned! Good job its a ****** nice car to drive!
In 3 months of ownership I've done:
Service by audi (oil change)
Haldex...
I'm really shocked to see that no one has yet mentioned or recommended these:

Honestly transformed the handling of my car and the two most common comments I hear from people are 1...
Good additional info mine does the same occasionally when driven late at night (i.e. goes like a rocket) suggesting that it could be something temperature related.
Also definitely not the fuel pump in my case as the car gets richer not leaner when the problem occurs. You can see the fault...
