Just for all you "BUL" engine code owners......and myself included.

Thanks for posting this up, I will be looking to get a B7 soonish so its good to know what I should look out for, basically go for the later B7 with no hint of silver on the top of the engine!

Audi B7 2.0T engine failures, quattro, Audi uk, engine Issues,

Is the sprocket not just behind the front cover behind the timing belt meaning you only need to drop the oil pan and remove the front cover to get access?

Audi B7 2.0T engine failures, quattro, Audi uk, engine Issues,

I believe most of the kit is OEM Audi apart from the problematic sprocket which seem to be solid in the aftermarket kits rather than refitting the spring loaded version which fails. I do miss the days you could fix a car with a spanner, hammer and screwdriver, seems that newer cars are simply...

Audi B7 2.0T engine failures, quattro, Audi uk, engine Issues,

I am currently in the 'planning to be a new owner boat' so I am doing as much research as I can, I am rather concerned about the oil pump issues, the HPFP follower issues and the piston ring oil consumption issues on this engine. I am actually as this very section looking at some electric oil...

Opinions on remapping 120k tfsi Quattro avant

Get the car running 100% perfectly stock before doing any modding.

Audi B7 2.0T engine failures, quattro, Audi uk, engine Issues,

Did you not look into the 1.8t oil pump conversion kits or the upgraded solid pulley upgrade for these engines when you had issues with your first car? Which engine codes were they?

TFSi Oil pump/balance shaft - which are chain drive?

Thanks for the input, I might still go with the 1.8t oil pump conversion, the project car won't be a daily driver so I would be ok with a bit of vibration etc, I have seen a failure of the balance shafts where one of the shafts seized which then damaged the sprocket and keyway on the crank.

TFSi Oil pump/balance shaft - which are chain drive?

Hmm, would just going with the 1.8t oil pump conversion be the better option, it would delete the balance shafts meaning it would have some additional secondary vibration (although I don't really know many 4 cylinders with balance shafts). I am slightly concerned owing to the large number of...

TFSi Oil pump/balance shaft - which are chain drive?

Hi all, Just wanted to know if all of the B7 TFSi engines have the chain driven balance shaft/oil pump combo like the TDi engines or if some are gear driven? Getting slightly concerned about getting a B7 TFSi as the project car owing to the failure rates of the sprockets, balance shafts and oil...

Balance shafts - how much of an issue?

I'm not actually sure, I don't yet have the project car, I know the limit on them is 14k rpm (spin twice as fast as the engine) but I know some have simply disabled them by removing a drive gear or swapped over to a 1.8t oil pump setup - both options mean no balance shafts so I am not sure what...

Balance shafts - how much of an issue?

Hi all, Just wondering how many people have had issues with their balance shafts, I know the best route to fix it is to remove the TFSi system and fit the 1.8T oil system instead which requires a fair bit of work as the gear needs to be swapped over on the crankshaft etc. I have also seen that...

TFSI exhaust manifold - remove turbo hotside

Hi all, Just a quick question on this, has anyone tried to simply remove the integrated turbo hotside from the OEM turbo manifold with a view to welding on a different flange size? Also, does the cylinder head share the same stud and port pattern with any other engines such as the 1.8t at all...

    Tfsi avant Quattro downpipe

How much do the US quattro downpipes cause issues regarding fitment due to having a steering column on RHD setups whereas the US models are LHD so have more space on the turbo side of the engine.

MOT advisory items that contradict OEM fittment parts....

The best MOT advisory I had was 'passenger seat missing' when I was in the process of sorting out my RX7 ECU - I know, there's a gap next to me lol. I think they just need to cover themselves as with the engine covers fitted they don't know on a visual inspection if the engine is being held in...

    Interchangeable parts

Thanks for confirming the seats, ideally the project car I get won't have full leather due to the weight - if the B6 seats fit then there will be hopefully some other lighter OEM manual options as well.

    Interchangeable parts

Hi all, Just wondered if anyone had a list of interchangeable parts between models, I know that things like the TT steering wheel would fit along with other VW parts such as control knobs. Was more wondering about what front seats might swap over, do seats from the B6 fit or indeed any other...

    Intercooler idea...

I found on a previous project for another car that the OEM Renault Scenic diesel intercoolers (I think it was off a 1.9 DCi) are quite large and are also front mounts (plus cost about £30), also if you are wanting to keep an OEM look then perhaps look at some of the water/air charge coolers.

Anyone fitted a single exit exhaust?

Thanks for that, I will be getting a turbo back system at some point, the project is a big turbo build so will need a 3" V band downpipe and sports cat - plan is to sort out a cat back system now and then when I upgrade the turbo I will then need to sort the downpipe. I guess I could use the...

Anyone fitted a single exit exhaust?

Hi all, Just looking at exhausts for the TFSi project car, as standard the car comes with twin exits (as far as I know), I will be swapping the exhaust out (initially a cat back) to something else to help with turbo spool etc. I will be looking for a 3" catback system, guessing non resonated...

    What MPG do you get?

Do you feel that the remap has helped the MPG? I know from previous cars that if you have slightly more torque lower down you don't need as much throttle pedal to keep the car moving when on cruise meaning a better MPG.
