How do you find the 2.0 engine? I've been toying chopping my TTRS for one but then I put the roof down and remember how good it sounds even if the dynamics are compromised. Fancy the GTS4.0 but it's a bit much

Why not mix it up a bit? We have a Mini electric for schools runs and local shops, a 3.0 BMW X4 for long hauls and family trips, and a TTRS roadster for weekends.

I test drove an X3 yesterday with a view to maybe replacing my Q5 (having had three in a row). I thought the 3.0d engine was super strong and it seemed to handle better than the Audi. Practically wise not much to choose between them. I think the cabin is not quite as nice as the Audi but...

Depends on whether you are buying with your head or your heart. I've had both (and S3 and Leon Cupra) and the Golf is a better all rounder, daily driver but the engine does sound nasty (interestingly worse than in the S3 and Cupra). But for occasion, drama, all that stuff, has to be RS3.

I had one that the dealer finance guy had for six months, was totally fine.

I had a 2014 S3 and hated the bouncing around when pressing on over rough ground, the mag ride on my RS3 seemed to sort that. The 2016 Golf R I had was way better handling, don't know why but it was.

I'm toying with the idea of buying an old shape RS5, probably for about 30ishK just to blast around on the weekend (never had a non-turbo V8 before). I'm looking for noise, savage acceleration (without turbo lag) and something that doesn't handle like a barge. Any opinions, views or advice you...

Did you buy your car to race and beat other Audis on the road? A few well documented incidents of that not ending well....

One thing about the GolF R I disliked (except for the lack of noise) is the difference between'race' mode compared to Audi 'dynamic' mode when used in Auto. The VW seems to hold at high Revs for much longer before changing up, you could use the paddle but it would often downshift again.

A bit more QC maybe? Evidenced by the 45ish miles on the clock? Maybe not....

I agree, had both, no contest, the build quality also seemed slightly better.

If you buy an RS you might get some of this stuff (sometimes), not so much for an S (probably due to volumes). Let's face it, it is usually when they know you're thinking of changing or upgrading....

I'd never leave my car at an airport meet and greet. I live near Stansted and you regularly see the greeters thrashing the cars on the back roads as they drive them to the parking lots....
