No point to this thread.... Just saying I still love my S3

Plenty of room in the sedan/saloon, which is another thing I like about the car. I'm a pro keyboard and bass player and can easily fit 2 full size keyboard cases, bass guitar, amp, stand, 2 gig bags, laptop and other assorted bibs and bobs into the rear seat and trunk/boot. It's probably the...

    Weird fuel gauge behaviour

On every car I've ever driven the last quarter on the fuel gauge, whether digital or analog, drops more quickly than the first quarter when it's full. It may be due to non-linearity in the sender unit resistance over its range, or the fact that the tank shape isn't a perfect cube shape so float...

Gone and ordered a new toy...

According to specs on the web it's only 279 lbs heavier than the S3, so similar to having a couple of passengers (or one American passenger - okay Weedram, that was uncalled for lol!). The solid rear axle was replaced by independent rear suspension in 2015 which apparently improved handling and...

    adaptive cruise control

I can think of one reason why you might want to switch adaptive/radar cruise control to the regular/fixed speed kind. Sometimes on a long drive I realize the guy in front of me has been travelling slower than my set speed and I should really have overtaken him. Now that I have been driving the...

No point to this thread.... Just saying I still love my S3

Mine's 9 months old and I'm still loving it. S3's are rare as hen's teeth around here. My wife was at the grocery store recently and some schoolboys walking by whispered excitedly to each other "that's an S3!!" and called out "Nice car, miss!", which I find hilarious.

Gone and ordered a new toy...

If 0-60 is your benchmark then it would be a toss up; according to tests in the US motorsport mags the V8 'Stang and the S3 both reach 60 mph in 4.6-4.7 seconds. The Mustang is a great looking car though. My neighbour has a purple one. Be sure to budget for tires, naughts, 'cause you'll be...

More bad news for VW - Camshaft Recall

Sold and built in North America. I'm in NA and my car was built in Hungary. But as you say, time will tell if euro parts are also affected

    The world vs Audi drivers...

Although I don't approve of speed cameras (see the "My busted so bad" thread) we have red light cameras around here and I love them. Especially at night, you see some idiot running a red light and you get great satisfaction seeing the double flash from the strobe light as it photographs their...

    Busted.....my so bad

The recent posts were about setting sensible speed limits, not about it being ok to go 70 in a 35 zone like the nebbish in that tragic case. Where I live (Canada) we have no speed cameras and minimal police enforcement. Do most people here drive at 120 mph because they can get away with it...

I've seen it in the flesh and it looks amazing

    Busted.....my so bad

It doesn't work that way in reality. Many before-and-after traffic engineering studies have shown that changing the speed limit up or down has no effect on how fast the traffic moves, or how many fatal crashes occur. Most people drive at the speed the road was designed to handle. Here's the...

    S3 v E63 AMG idiots (Video)

It would have helped his case if he hadn't been arguing, yelling, insulting, swearing and getting out of the car to confront the other guys after they were already returning to their vehicle. I pity his poor student driver, thinking this is how adults should behave in this situation. Lots of...

Time for some fun and to show off your car

I thought the rule was to revert to the previous challenge if no takers, but rules are for followers and here at ASN we lead so... Since people like to keep their cars shiny, how about a pic of something interesting reflected mirror-like in your car.

    ACC breaks too strongly

I've had that red lamp come on even when ACC is switched completely off to tell me I'm following too closely for it to react if it was on. I have also experienced the "closing the gap too fast" and the stopping too abruptly phenomena. On close distance settings it almost does panic stops if...

    Does ACC ride the brakes?

Not sure if it affects the amount of braking but I find the shorter distance settings result in much harder braking, near panic braking on occasion, given the way people drive around here. I find myself adjusting the distance setting regularly as traffic patterns change to keep people from...

    Does ACC ride the brakes?

Yes but only when losing traction which is an occasional event. I'm talking about continuous braking while in heavy traffic, which without ACC I generally avoid by lifting off the accelerator early unless it's a stop-and-go jam.

    Does ACC ride the brakes?

I know ACC applies the brakes if traffic in front slows down. What I'm wondering is if it rides the brakes, causing unnecessary wear and annoying drivers behind with constant flashing of the brake lights? There's not a lot of compression braking from the engine. When I'm controlling the...
