sounds more like a collapsed wheel bearing as we seem to have identical symptoms. Its funny how there is no play in the wheel when checking it but then you pull the bearing out and it looks completely stuffed.

TDI 140 has a good point it could be the CV joints. I had my CV joints refurbished and about 1 week after that this problem started. took it back to my mechanic and found that the wheel bearing had partially collapsed. Just my luck... lol :D

I could ask them but i doubt in Australia they would have the warranty and honor it not to mention that i am the 3rd owner. Also my mechaninc is 100% sure its not going to fix it by doing a DSG service. Anyone know where i can get a new unit from at a decent price ?

Hi NHN he has recalibrated the gearbox when he did the timing belt service about 3 weeks ago and it hasnt helped. The symptoms still persist but are not as violent as before. the car has done 122,300 km so im guessing its due for a DSG service soon.

Does it feel like it's suffocating when you turn off the engine ? Also does the whole car shake violently ? From your symptoms above it sounds like an ASV problem but you've replaced that . How long does it take to switch off completely once you cut the ignition.

i agree get a second opinion. Even with a DPF problem the turbo and fuel pump should not be affected that much. How did the engine fail. Did it blow smoke and then stop, did it shudder and then sieze, were there any grinding or whining noises ??
