The FSi engine has a belt for the timing between the crankshaft & one of the camshafts. The other camshaft is timed to this camshaft on the oppposite side of the engine using a chain.

Yep belt front chain bback audirecommend timing belt change every 5 years or 75k which ever comes first hence why its changed but I don't understand that sound which disappears after 3 minutes

Because it settles had it checked warm by mechanic also normal it's the cold start loud noise coming from tensioner area has got me worried sounding like a diesel and loud injectors Ivan accept but them first 3 minutes dusnt sound normal

bought car couple of days ago noticed this sound on cold start up its has timing belt changed at audi at 56k then had oil service at 77 and now due another. But i don't see why this is happening after timing belt has been replaced and as only done 30k since. heres the video I took this morning.

Mine doesn't sound normal on the initial cold start up as you can hear from the video I posted above. Need help panicking mite be damaging engine or not. Drives and idles absoloutly fine not sluggish or misfiring responsive as normal.

Video with sound on start up

Hi just joined from Scotland too need help as just bought a3 with loud noise on cold start up then goes away after 3 minutes sounds like tensioner

This is how it sounds on first start up in morning

Bought 2.0 fsi recently car has loud sound near belt/tensioner for the first 3 minutes then settled to just hearing the diesel sounding injectors. Car is at 86k had a timing belt replaced from audi at 56k so still has a year to gonzo replace under there recommendations.
