I wouldn't take it personally! So was the car actually braking, or did it just suddenly loose power. Your maf fault could trigger limp mode, which feels like you driven into a wall sometimes. I would clear the fault codes and see what reoccurs when you testdrive it - poor connections or random...

So as an update I went to see the audi service desk today (after they'd promised to call me back at 9.30 and didnt), it turns out they were talking about the cambelt tensioner damper, which isnt part of the normal cambelt service price - seems pretty shocking as its cricual for cambelt tension...

My A6 is currently in for its cambelt, and I've had a call from the service manager telling me that they also need to replace the 'oil driven cambelt damper', which is apparently part of the oil pump, for only £120+vat. Has anyone who's done a cambelt on a v6 seen such a thing? I cant see it on...
