For anyone who finds this and the above does not solve your issue, I found on mine it was the actual motor making the squeal noise. I would not have guessed that and replaced the entire regulator first. Still making noise!
I would advise anyone trying to track this issue down to whip off the...
Right, well we've found the code is 'DLP'. can I only use a 'DLP' gearbox or are there others with the same ratio and fitting that will work. Just so I can source a suitable 2nd hand replacement. I can't see many on ebay with the DLP code.
Cheers,
Paul
Hi All,
Trying to find a gearbox for an A3 1.6 sport.
There's a few on ebay. Are there any better gearboxes that could be used instead? One off a 1.8T for example? Can they be interchanged or are they different?
Many thanks,
Paul
Thanks... Ah, but I need to remove the balljoints. I have new wishbones with balljoints ready to fit to the new subframe... I'm expecting there'll be things in the way in order to get those out... Maybe not?
Sweet. Cheers for that.
Is it easy enough to get to the lower balljoints on the end of the wishbones? What needs to come off in order to get to those. Can that be done without removing driveshafts?
I should really get a Haynes manual or something.
Hi All,
So my 1.8t sport failed the MOT. Looks like the previous owner has hacked away at the subframe. I've picked u a replacement on ebay and am going to replace wishbones at the same time.
Does the subframe support the engine on this car or can I safely remove it without engine support...
It did freak me out a bit replacing an airbag. Paranoid it might just go off in my face. Battery was disconnected for a while but still...
The airbag was easy to replace too. Just remove the lower dash / glove box part, then 4 torx for the airbag brackets and a further 2 that hold a webbing...
New airbag in, soldered, light reset and no longer showing on the dash! For the first time since I've owned the car.
Thanks again for the help RGL. Let me know if you ever need a similar favour.

Hi All,
So today I finally got around to removing my passenger dash airbag in order to fit the replacement I ordered a while ago.
I forgot that the plug was missing on the main loom because it broke and now I don't know what colour wires on the loom go to which colours on the airbag! ****...
Thanks for that! Very helpful information.
I'm in Eastbourne, East Sussex - so quite far away from Solihull. I'll look for a local air con expert. I knew Kwik Fit were rubbish but also knew they'd do it for free and then I could maybe rule something else out!
Thanks,
Paul
It really does sound similar. I've only really noticed that mine will work for about 15 minutes from starting the car from cold. If I stop for a short while then re-start, the air is not cold.So it will work every morning but just for about 15 minutes!
I haven't tried tuning the ignition on and...
Cheers Basil.
So that sounds like how it'd behave if it had a leak? Kwik Fit were saying it was holding the refrigerant fine, it just cuts out.
I'll look in to the UV stuff.
After the Kwik Fit top up, I get cool air con but only for about 10 - 15 minutes from starting the car from cold. It then cuts out.
Any ideas where to look?
I appreciate the guide, these were just a couple of tips from me doing this recently and they might help someone else out. There was now way my pedal would have moved over enough without levering through that hole. It was flexing / bending where it mounts to the bulkhead. The 13mm nut was loose...
It's been filled up but I didn't pay as apparently it didn't work. They said it started to work but then it didn't? He was saying the compressor isn't turning... I'll need to check that myself..
Do you get a noise and a change in revs if the compressor isn't working?
If you have to redo the pedal, have a look at my post above for a couple of tips to make it easier. Basically use long nose pliers to fit the plastic clip and a screwdriver to lever the pedal over.
There are 2 very thin bushes if you look at the old pedal. I nearly missed them but realised that the new pedal when fitted with the old spindle felt much looser than the old one so figured something was missing. I just took the old ones out. They come out easily. Probably better to get new ones...
