Is it running too rich? Should clean itself if you give it a good blast every now and again. Are you running a remap/ chip/ tuning box? JD

With the age mileage, the engine may be coked up a bit. Try using an additive which may clean the injectors etc, one like Millers Diesel Plus. I used this in my old Golf TDI for most of its life. Sold it with 135k miles and it still ran as efficiently and as sharp as when i bought it with 30k...

Have one on the 110 TDI. Analogue £40 unit. Cheap and cheerful and fun to drive, does exactly what it says on the tin. Although i am looking at a digital unit for a smoother powerband. Used to have a Hopa on a MK3 Golf tdi and it was excellent. JD

Cheers jojo, Just the sort of recomendations i was looking for. Have seen some cheaper brands which don't stand the test of time, flaky paint etc. Don't want to fork out £500+ just to have them re-coated in a years time. JD

The golf is very common and has high insurance and high prices. The leon is nice, but are on the run out and values will probably be falling soon. I am not sure if they are easier to insure than the golf, but they are not as common (bonus) and look very well with big wheels and lowered...
