Thanks for the offer, @udi A3, but the Speedo and Rev Counter are working fine. It's the fuel and temp gauges that don't work.

Battery is fine. Doesn't lose charge. Never needs a jump start. Connections are tight. With the key in the ignition (not turned to any position AND headlights on), the battery is under more or less the same load as when the key is at Position 1.

When I put the key in the ignition (without turning it) the dashlights shine bright (with the headlights on). When I turn the key to position 1 the dashlights go dim and the fuel empty beeper sounds. If there were bad Earths somewhere, the dashlights wouldn't go bright at all.

Ok Thanks for the advice. Where do you mean...rear of dash? Do you mean under the scuttle trim in the engine bay?

Near Newcastle upon Tyne. I'll check all the Earths I can find.

An 'auto-electrician' looked at the car today. He couldn't find any 'faults'. Someone with a little knowledge needed!!:scared2:

I took the battery out yesterday and looked at the Earths there. I unscrewed a couple, but they looked ok, so I left alone.
