I did my best to get regular engine grease in there by dipping a piece of card and pushing it down the gap. I got a bit in there but it was such a small gap I'm not satisfied. I am going to buy spray grease later today.

I've been lurking around here for a while now but thought I'd sign up and say hello. I bought an old A4 Avant a couple of months ago with it's fair share of niggles... learning a lot as I've never owned a car before.

I've been looking for a leak in my Avant for a few weeks now. On removing the scuttle panel as one of the first checks (engine drains) I realised all of the plastic screws are chewed by the previous owner and were just sitting in there loose (I removed the main screw and the rest just fell out)...
