Gear Issue (Pulling away in neutral, can only move with 1st, 2nd) A3 8L Quattro ARY

Yep, as stated it was selector forks. Got it in with Matt at Volkscraft in Exeter on Monday morning. He diagnosed it as a gearbox issue. I then took it to South West Transmissions and they've fixed it about 24 hours to be tune of 550 plus VAT. Thanks for your help guys!

Gear Issue (Pulling away in neutral, can only move with 1st, 2nd) A3 8L Quattro ARY

Thanks newbster. Ordinarily I would go along with this, but I have neither the time nor the space to remove my gearbox. Looks like I'll be hiring a car for the coming week while I see if the local VAG garage can take care of this for a cost within my budget. Otherwise it's goodbye. :(

Gear Issue (Pulling away in neutral, can only move with 1st, 2nd) A3 8L Quattro ARY

Thanks badger5. Expensive fix, am I right? Better off just getting a replacement box? If it makes a difference: Just drove it to the petrol station to jetwash the linkage. I can confirm it is stuck in 1st gear, as the people behind me were very unhappy I couldn't get past 20mph. While driving I...

Gear Issue (Pulling away in neutral, can only move with 1st, 2nd) A3 8L Quattro ARY

Hello Audi Sport, It happened yesterday as I was driving. Slow traffic, I stuck the gear into neutral and when I tried to place it into 2nd it stalled, complete with some worrying grinding noises. This issue, as titled, means that the gear is constantly engaged (I believe it's 2nd, as it's...

Have I just been ripped off by Kwik Fit?

Thanks Karl. According to this thread, you can adjust the toe. (My A3 is a quattro, forgot to mention in first post). I guess it isn't Kwik Fit procedure to go messing with the subframe, and the camber is a work-around? Any thoughts? I'd be happy to ring them up tomorrow for clarification but...

Have I just been ripped off by Kwik Fit?

I've just had my alignment done for my A3. The front definitely needed doing. I was informed by the bloke at Kwik Fit that the back right needed doing too, for an extra £20. He obviously knows more than me, so I obliged. Here are the printouts: From what I can tell, I've been charged £20...

Squeaking/creaking in front wheel arches when turning full lock from stationary

Is it the top mounts that are creaking, if this is the case? Or are they causing something to creak by being worn? Also, how could I verify that this is the case?

Squeaking/creaking in front wheel arches when turning full lock from stationary

Hello, My 2001 A3 8l Quattro (ARY engine) is behaving normally besides a squeaking/creaking noise coming from within the wheel arch. It occurs when I'm driving and turn the wheel sharply, or when I'm parking and turning the wheel full lock in either direction. From what I can tell it's coming...

Help Removing Oil Filter Bracket (cam Chain Tensioner Related) 1.8t Ary

Thanks for your help tuffty. If anyone's interested, I'll keep the thread updated and let you know what happens. I rang the garage that I previously had asked to do the work and they said that they would happily do the work with the cheaper part, but wouldn't condone it, and would recommend...

Help Removing Oil Filter Bracket (cam Chain Tensioner Related) 1.8t Ary

This seems like it would be outside of my capabilities. With that said, do you reckon, based on my description, that the chain will be ******? If not, then I might just book this in for the 1-1.5 hours work and the replacing of the tensioner with the GSF part. Thanks again tuffty.

Help Removing Oil Filter Bracket (cam Chain Tensioner Related) 1.8t Ary

Really? In that case, would it be reasonable to expect me to do it in an afternoon? I've changed the oil pick up before, as a measure of how competent I am with engine repairs. Also, what are the risks of me doing this wrong? Could I easily **** the engine up if I put something back wrong? Can...

Help Removing Oil Filter Bracket (cam Chain Tensioner Related) 1.8t Ary

tuffty, Thanks for your reply. Are you referring to this one: http://www.gsfcarparts.com/023vg0140 If so I think, with the labour, it's still going to be outside of my price range. I set aside about £400-500 to fix this problem but I'm told it will be many hours work.

Help Removing Oil Filter Bracket (cam Chain Tensioner Related) 1.8t Ary

Hello, From about the time I first serviced my a3 1.8t quattro to now (8 months), it has made a rattling noise on startup and rattles on idle once it gets warm. I've recently had it diagnosed as 'cam chain tensioner' by a VAG specialist, although he did only give it the cursory look over...
