The A3 is a TDi and we used to have an A4 TDi. Might consider a bigger engined desiel so a bit more power and smoother. The A3 2.0 TDi is a bit rough. Cannot beat the sound of a petrol engine. Have been looking at Allroad TDi's - but they are a bit out of our price range (up to around 12K).

the 1.9TDi front wheel drive had the exhaust only on 1 side (2 pipes). The Quattro had 1 pipe on each side (I think!)

good to hear. I dont think emissions and economy are much worse than the 1.8T (190) - very rarely see 30mpg and it is in the top tax as well (luckily old enough to avoid the new £300 super tax!) We may also be buying a caravan (don't shoot me!) next year and the 3.0 will be a better tow...

2 - 3 years I guess. It is hard to find an alternative - We are selling the A3 to save some money (still on finance and probably worth around 12 grand at the moment) so looking at something cheaper (but still has to be reliable) and bigger (the baby seat doesn't fit very well into the A3!)...

I suppose the other question is - is it a good price? the mileage is high, but I am guessing a 3 litre engine isn't going to be stressed much and as long as the cam belt has been changed etc.

The long life service is variable (as you are finding out!). The time to the next service is calculated by how you drive and the conditions you drive in (lots of short journeys - means shorted service intervals etc).

All part of the interior light pack. You also get 2 little LED's on the roof (just infront of the central sunvisor i think) - that give the front of the car a nice red glow when driving at night (well I like it anyway!)

Sounds familiar! Happened to mine for 1 day only! You can set the temperature on the passenger side to Low - and cold air comes out, otherwise always hot. Got in the car the next day - was fine and hasn't come back, yet.

I managed to have a look at the weekend - there is a hole which the screw driver fits in (on the opposite end of the handle from the keyhole), but it doesn't appear to connect with anything when you pop the screwdriver into it! Unfortunately I have to wait until the weekends to look at it...

Just had another look - cannot see any holes etc underneath the handle. The metal colour coded face plate seems to locate on two plastic "lugs", but there doesn't seem to be any holes/pins that can be pushed back into place.
