Sorry also to add - the car is a 140, but is remapped to around 180bhp, will a replacement standard clutch/flywheel be upto the job, as I don't want to replace them, only to have to replace them again in 6 months! I will probably own the car for another 2 years and do around 35,000 miles before...

Sorry to hear this, out of interest what mileage? Is your engine a BKD? Standard or remapped?

2.0 tdi (BKD engine) with a DSG box, pretty sure my car puts my gearbox in 3rd at that speed and eventually changes up to 4th if left for long enough at those revs.

May be an easy fix, might not be. One thing I'm sure of is that once it is fixed you will love the car! PS if it was a private sale, unfortunately as the seller isn't a dealer they won't offer you a warranty..if you want a warranty it has to be a dealership or a seperate one like RAC/AA etc...

I agree, the thing people forget about though is that whilst engines last a long time, other parts wear out like suspension, brakes, sensors etc. Even annoying things like boot lids, electric windows etc. They all add up! ££
