Could be an airlock somewhere. Mine did something similar after replacing the hose to the header tank and not bleeding any air out. Turned car on and coolant was low, opened header tank and level returned to normal. Been fine since.
Could be a small hole somewhere that lets out a negligable...
Changed the gaskets - no difference.
This is the boost graph from when the turbo failed:
Looks like the classic coked up VNT but the vanes moved freely when the turbo was taken off.
It still felt the same after the turbo was changed - laggy at low revs, lacking in power in 1st and 2nd...
I had to replace my turbo due to a snapped shaft and I've also noticed there is more noise than I would have expected coming from the solenoid block. Its enough that you can hear air when someone else revs a bit on idle and you put your head close.
I'm sure its lagging low down in the rev range...
There was flow from the expansion line. I must admit, I don't know how much there should be normally.
Local indy reckoned water pump - replaced and all seems fine. There was damage to the fins of the existing pump.
Scratch that - coolant from expansion looks to have come out the overflow on the tank. Must have happened when I opened it.
Would a dodgy stat create too much pressure on one side of the system thus filling the tank when top was removed?
The coolant currently stands well above the fill mark, basically at the top. That occured after opening the expansion tank. Potentially due to air in the rest of the system?
Tbh I don't know if it came out when I opened the tank or whether it was doing it the whole way home. Its dark and...
Are leaks around the expansion tank common?
Could that have drawn air in after this mornings commute and cause said problems on the way home?
You can see where coolant has run from under the expansion tank and down the engine bay. Damned if I can see where its come from though!
No. But, I cracked the expansion tank open again and it bubbled and sounded like someone up ending a bottle of water - sort of glugging. I've now seen a fair amount of coolant to the left of the engine where it can pool and some on the under tray. It looks as though it has come from around the...
Car is a 2004 2.0 TDi BKD.
I noticed this on the way home from work this evening; I'm sure it wasn't the case this morning.
At idle or at low speeds the blowers will only give cold air. Once the revs are up it'll start to blow hot. The temp on the dash is sat at 90 degrees.
The radiator is...
Rules changed earlier in the year. There is plenty of info on the net from people speaking to VOSA and updated MOT guidelines.
I also had to pop the airbag bulb on the GFs car to get it on the road before I had a chance to sort the actual problem. Passed with an advisory. That was last month...
Other than the delayed split in the turbo hose, all else seems to be ok. Touch wood. Intercooler and pipe work have been cleaned of oil and shrapnel and it doesn't look like anything went down the exhaust side.
Now I just need to work out if it was the turbo at fault or something else. There...
Well; I got the car back last night although I couldn't go to pick it up.
It seemed to be driving alright although to be honest it didn't feel much different from before the turbo went. Took it easy on the way to work this morning but first incline and some load and it started to leak boost...
Search the net for 'VCDS TDi health check'. If you can get hold of someone with VCDS then that gives you a good basis of things to at least start ruling out.
Apart from the turbo recently blowing lol? I'm pretty that is a turbo issue and the map didn't cause it though. The extra strain might not have helped but it was going to go eventually.
Happy with the map. Power wise it was conservative but MPG increased by about 10% on a good run. The hot...
No idea on power. It only had a conservative flash map done when EGR light was being disabled and hot start fixed. It's the work horse so emphasis was very much on longevity.
The requested boost is visible on the graph and isn't asking too much. The actual boost is suggesting a physical problem...
Was done by a Quantum tuning rep locally. Got it generically mapped at the same time and had the EGR light disabled. Think it cost about 180 for the lot. I had to request the hot start fix and EGR.
