I've had a friend try before but had no luck and kept coming up with a communication error on the scanner. I haven't got a stereo in it and I have tried a brand new one, but I've read up that some of these engines won't read the ecu due to the stereo?

I take it a working cat would also bring down the lambda readings?

Well I'm in Norfolk.lol it is a decat disguised as a cat so that's why it didn't fail on not having one. I shall get the numbers on Monday as left the emissions sheet at my work.

My 97 aeb failed mot on emissions, probably due to the decat. I really can't afford to get another cat for it and I don't know anyone at a garage well enough to pass it, so was wondering if there was any things I could do to maybe reduce the emissions?

I have disconnected the maf but no change, stays exactly the same. Haven't checked for boost leaks yet, is there any hoses that fail more than others?

ill give it a check tomorrow, it seems ok when idling, not as often when its driving. Also when I took the engine cover off, I noticed a slight bit of oil on top of coil pack #1, im yet to take it out and see if there is any on the shaft or spark plug.

hi guys, bought a 97 a4 1.8t with the aeb engine, the guy said he thinks it was running on 3 cylinders, so driving it home and it seemed like it was hesitating when accelerating. it was however very intermittent so it would be smooth for a second then start hesitating etc. few more miles down...
