    Speeding fines

[ QUOTE ] And how did it affect your insurance Miket? [/ QUOTE ] Going from a clean licence to 3 points for speeding and a separate 2 week ban for speeding in one year, my insurance went up from 500 to 700 pounds. The insurers told me that they regard 6 points or a 4 week ban to be the same...

    Speeding fines

From experience, you'll be looking at 5 to 6 points and £300 - £500 fine. My mate who is pretty skint got 6 points and £550 fine for 94.5mph on the deserted M67. I went for the Ban instead for my 104mph , got 2 weeks - but no points! (plus £300 fine).

    Wiper clearance from bonnet

[ QUOTE ] it's booked in at SKF audi in bolton on friday of which they have refused to give me a courtesy car! i'll have to be honest this is the first Audi i have owned and i think the service is very poor... [/ QUOTE ] They refused or they didn't have one available? Ditto on the service...

    Wiper clearance from bonnet

I phoned Lancaster a while back to get a service quote - they were the only people who were more expensive than Smith Knight Fay. You need to compare it with another car, as I said before, unless the bonnet is the wrong one (not really possible), it can't be at fault - if it was in the wrong...

    Wiper clearance from bonnet

Are you seriously telling us that a dealers raised your bonnet hinge so much that the hinge bolts were visible, then painted these parts to try and conceal it????????? That is mind numbing. Who the f##k was that? More to the point why did you not run them over and kill them for being so stupid?

[ QUOTE ] Petrol cars sometimes use Turbos and sometimes don't and give around 20-25mpg [/ QUOTE ] That is surely the most generically unspecific and uninformative quote i've read on this forum :-) Maybe "Petrol cars run on Petrol" would have been more useful?

    Automatic folding mirrors

Mine did it from new. But it got better with time, now with 12 months / 30K on the clock its fine. I got the 'sorry sir we've not heard of that one before' and gave up.

    Wiper clearance from bonnet

I've checked mine and its 20mm+ like Dave R. With the wipers over half way up you should be able to lift them off the screen and right back on their hinges till they hold. From your picture it looks like the wiper arm tilt hinge is underneath the edge of the bonnet? Providing you have the...

But the DSG does allow slip at low revs in any gear as appropriate!! Wet clutches are fine with slippage because the oil helps cool the plates and prevent any heat damage. Thats why it is a wet multiplate clutch because it is designed to control slip under power. A manual single plate clutch is...

    Over reving problems?

If the RPM is ACTUALLY increasing without an ACTUAL increase in wheel/road speed then the clutch is slipping. Period. 'sensation of power loss' is something completely different however. And could be any number of things such as boost leaks etc.

    Over reving problems?

What, the rpm actually increase? or just the tacho needle goes up momentarily? If the revs are changing then your clutch is on the way out.

[ QUOTE ] The fact that DSG just lets the wheels spin away is another disadvantage of the DSG being an 'on/off' clutch. You shouldn't have to 'coax' the car into acceleration, but that's what you have to do with DSG. It should be able to cope with all driving styles and scenarios. [/ QUOTE...

Sorry to go on a bit, but here me out please........ My 2.0T creeps plenty, thus negating the need for any handbrake on hill starts. Up to 1 in 10 gradient at least. I’m sure bowfer has a ‘Friday afternoon’ gearbox. This ‘delay’ seems related to the action of ‘flooring’ it. Why would you need...

    Insurance

Yet again no-one could touch direct line for me. In the last 12 months i've got 3 points for speeding and a separate 2 week ban for speeding. Confused.com put at least £1000 on for these offences. Direct line just put £150 on, making £700. A bargain for the details below: 33yrs 3 points + ban...

I too am a great cynic, but I have something up on the wall in my office which I run my business by: As John Ruskin (1819-1900) once said: “It is unwise to pay too much, but it is worse to pay too little. If you pay too much then all you lose is some money, that is all. If you pay too little...

As David is fortunate to have a good dealer with whom he has built some sort of relationship, I say good for him and I wish I had the same experience. There is a significant market sector for 2nd hand buyers who will pay a premium for cars with Full dealer history only. Right or wrong its a...

You are correct Bowfer. I would buy a 2 or 3 yr old car with a private service history, no problem. But the majority of buyers with little appreciation of this subject would either walk away from a non full dealer history vehicle (probably because of what they’ve read in a which? magazine etc)...

It's the resale issue that is most important. People don't like to buy a car without a full dealer history, especially for the first 3 years up to MOT. I would always get it serviced privately after the 3 years, but before then you'll loose out on resale, especially trading-in to a dealers.

The inspection check list is what they tried to tell me was 'extra'. They are so full of s##t it even comes out of their mouths when they speak. They seem to start with the idea of " treat customer as if they are brain-dead to start with", then if they argue give them some slack, until if you...
