    Timing belt change

I did this a while ago. I moved the lock carrier into the service position and supported it on some threaded bar.

    1.8T Aux Belt

The tensioner is easy to release too,I think you can just hold it to one side with an allen key.

    Smog Pump!!!!

I think the charcoal canister is indeed under the drivers side wing, and the fumes are allowed into the inlet manifold under certain conditions determined by the ECU,which opens a valve. I think the engine needs to be at operating temp and not idling, but it was a while ago I read it!

    Towbar for S4

Great info Simon, but i also have a question about the electrics. The wiring kit I bought says to connect to the input side of the module which controls the bulb failure check system.Do you know where this is,or even if it is necessary? I've started taking the interior to pieces in preparation...

Has anyone on here fittied their own towbar and electrics? The towbar is no problem, but in the electric kit purchased it says to connect to the input side of the module which controls the bulb failure check system, but I have no idea where this is or even if this is necessary. Does the DIS...

    Possible petrol leak

I had a fuel leak recently coming from a pipe which exits from behind the drivers side wheel, level with the sill.I think this is connected with the emissions/charcoal canister but I didn't investigate it fully and it's not leaked since. May be worth a look.

I had this same problem and had it repaired at an Audi dealers for a lot less than £800. My A4 has done 136k so you are not alone.

petrol needle playing up help please

I have a similar problem with the fuel gauge on my A4. It suddenly dropped to zero a couple of weeks ago and hasn't moved since! This seems to be a common problem on higher mileage cars (mine has done 133k) where a fault develops with the sender. I have connected an ohm meter to the sender and...

    CD changer brackets

I bought a CD changer off Ebay recently and all is fine, apart from the brackets to fix it into the car.I ordered all the bits from Audi (thought it would be easy this way) but I have 2 brackets which I don't think I require.I have a large box-type recepticle which houses the jack and tools...

    EXHAUST TAIL/FINISH?

Well i quite like it. It's way better than the black twins fitted as std. Quite unusual too.

    Cam Belt

Apparently Halfords belts are reinforced compared to other belts on the market,as they are aimed at (possibly) more ham fisted home mechanics!I'm going to change my belt next year and will probably just use an Audi one though.

    Coil Packs

I had a problem similar to this recently.I swapped the coil packs round but the misfire was still on the same cylinder.Had to take it to Derby Audi who diagnosed a faulty ignition amplifier module, and only charged me £16 labour. The module was £180 though!
