Hope this is fine being in this forum, but I've got a 2006 petrol Octavia VRS (2l TFSI BWA engine) with engine troubles.
Recently the turbo blew and this has been replaced with a OEM one from TPS. Renewed the required lines as well and the removal and refitting went fine.
After starting it and...
Well today I did the car's yearly full service. Came to changing the filter and looks like the old filter has collapsed on itself. As I removed it from the housing out came the plastic cylinder that it rests over as well. I had to pry the old filter off this plastic cylinder and in doing so the...
Thought'd I better update this thread.
I had the car looked at and nothing appeared untoward and everything was correct. Garage did a reset of the codes and MIL light was gone and car was back to being fine.
This is until this morning when I started the car and the MIL light has returned.
I'm...
audismart - codes have been cleared but still reappear.
Engine is a TFSI. Cam follower was checked late last year and a hole was found. Upon more investigation it became clear I also had a revision 'a' one piece intake camshaft. This was all then changed in December last year with a 2 piece...
audismart - thanks for the reply.
I have changed the N249 valve since the error code and MIL light have come on and still it stays. The original N249 valve (revision C), looked on good condition tbh with no splits in the diaphragm but I still replaced it with the revision G version I bought...
Plugged my car into VCDS the other day as the EML light came on and performance was greatly reduced.
I got the following error codes:
3 Faults Found:
008801 - Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249)
P2261 - 008 - Mechanical Malfunction - Intermittent
Freeze Frame...
Problem solved!
Spoke to Alex at AKS with regards to getting my car booked in to have the issue checked. He mentioned a little part which went against the end of the intake camshaft held in place by the cam cradle.
Removed the timing belt cover and tapped it in, started the car and voila...car...
Also I did notice that when I have recently done work to the car on the last 2 occasions the car would require a jump start after.
Could a weak battery or failing alternator cause the issues I'm having?
Replaced the PCV valve on the rocker cover.
Still no joy, rough idling is still present.
In other news replaced all 4 coilpacks and 4 spark plugs and after a brief test drive plugged code reader in and no longer get the P0300 error code.
Anyone got any ideas as to the cause of the rough idling...
Just done another oil and filter change plus cleaned the pick up pipe in the sump and the red oil pressure light hasn't appeared on the test run.
However plugged into my code reader and error code P0300 has come up and it's mentioned 3 there's a misfire on 3 of the cylinders.
Had a quick search...
Here's 3 10sec videos which show the engine idling once it's started, after the revs settle from just over 1k (always happens on the first start with the engine cold) and when the engine is up to temp.
The idling IMO gets better once the engine is warmer but it still sounds rough.
With engine...
On idle the engine in my car is hunting and not staying at a consistent rpm. Under load the car is fine and the revs rise and fall as they should. It even stays ok when I shift into neutral for a brief moment after being under load. But if I were to stop with the engine running, within 30-60secs...
Before I checked and replaced the cam follower I had removed the sump to change the pick up pipe. Cleaned out the sump and found no metal bits in it.
Tbh the car has had regular oil changes throughout its life so I can only assume as the metal was collecting in the pump, shortly after it was...
Soot1 - thanks for the link.
However the link shows an overview and explains how the system works. What I'm looking for is any feedback from those that have had to change the intake camshaft.
My old follower had a hole through the top of it when I inspected it, so this was changed for a new one...
