Hi Everyone! A4 Brake Issues and that rattle!

Cheers for that, though have had the pads out and there looks to be plenty of copper slip on the backs of the pads. Have just been reading a VW forum thread for Passats that says they're well documented at having problems with loose sub frame bolts. Anyone have any experience of this...

Hi Everyone! A4 Brake Issues and that rattle!

Rattle turned out to be the latching bar for the passenger side of the rear seat upright - the bar that holds the seat in the upright position, which was slack. tightened it up and bingo - silence...apart from that brake noise!

    2.0 TDI Glow Plug Testing

OK, had a go at live testing the plugs this morning... Removed valve cover and unplugged glow plugs. Cleaned oil out of the electrical plugs and also found two of the wires had nicks in the insulation, so sealed these with self amalgamating tape - see photo of nick in wire. Checked resistance...

Vacuum hoses on BRD engine - valve cover not under vacuum?

Thnaks for that Steve220. I also tried sucking on the hose sticking out of the cover and it seems blocked that way too. Have noticed air blowing out of the pinhole in the front left of the cover when the car is running - presume it's meant to do that? Do you know what the hose is meant to do...

Vacuum hoses on BRD engine - valve cover not under vacuum?

Evening Gents, Just checking the glow plugs on my 2.0 and when I removed the vacuum tube from the side of the valve cover, I could hear air sucking into the tube. This hose connects to the valve cover, but when I try to blow through the tube into the valve cover, it seems blocked. Question...

    2.0 TDI Glow Plug Testing

Hi, Does anyone know how to properly test the glow plugs in a 2.0 TDI engine? Don't know what voltage to expect, but was told that a straight 12v across the glow plugs would ruin them. Its a BRD engine by the way, so has ceramic glow plugs. Also not sure if the coolant temp' sensor affects...

audi a4 tdi 170 lumpy idle

Cheers mike81, did sound like a daft question even from a suck, squeeze, bang, blow fifth year physics (eg, inlet must linked to exhaust)kinda theory, but the way these things are built nowadays, I felt I just had to ask, Thanks again. Does anyone know if the diesel pump is ran from the timing...

audi a4 tdi 170 lumpy idle

Is exhaust cam timing something totally different to valve timing? Also heard that diesel pump timing needs to be correct? Having similar problems with my 170 TDi A4 quattro.

Looking for a vagcom or VCDS - any recommendations?

The way I feel about it right now, that would be ripping you off!! This is the third (and most definitely last) German car I've had in a row now, and two of them have cost (or are in the process of costing) me a fortune. Swedish cars (the ones that rhyme with Wolvo) are the future - had four of...

Looking for a vagcom or VCDS - any recommendations?

Thanks very much ScottB5 - finally, someone else who's heard of the credit crunch lol Do you know if these cheaper jobs will allow me to check the timing? Cheers for adding a bit of balance to the debate btw

She didn't need one....halcyon days of not caring about emissions or the environment...and the air seemed so much fresher hah!!

Looking for a vagcom or VCDS - any recommendations?

Can't argue with any of you - sounds a good deal when I have all the facts, but I'm still not sure I want to keep a car that may need plugged in so often. Me old Vauxhall Chevette never needed plugged in!!!

That would be spot on mate, cheers. Car had a cam belt at 66k, and now done 105k, but in service history notes, the **** I bought it off had complained about cold start issues and had the glow plugs replaced about 10k ago. The rough idle is intermittent, and the car sometimes shakes like its...
